 So they chose a cozy spot among
the bushes near the water and
settled down to build their nest.
 Although it was cold and snowy
outside, it was nice and cozy inside
by the fireplace.

last Mrs. Mallard had found a place that
suited her.
 Delighted that Dad was going to take me
fishing, I ran to get my fishing people.

 Just as they were getting read to start on
their way, a strange enormous bird came
by.
 The baker is decorating an enormous
birthday cake with ten layers.

raised one hand to stop the traffic, and then
beckoned with the other, the way policemen
do, for Mrs. Mallard to cross.
 Mother beckoned for me to come and take a
freshly baked cookie.

 Mr. and Mrs. Mallard were bursting
with pride.
 The baby’s parents were so happy
they were bursting with joy.
