Make the implementation of the Pre-AP courses infused with numerous LTF lessons and assessments a priority as a school/district leader. 2. Use your ASPIRE and PLAN data (as well as other sources) to identify students for honors/pre-AP courses. 3. Remember that the A+ Program advocates for OPEN ENROLLMENT and that data should be used to move students into rigorous courses versus keeping them out. Demography of Pre-AP courses should mirror the demography of your school. 4. Select teachers to teach LTF-infused courses who ascribe to an open enrollment philosophy and who are willing to learn and try new things. 5. Communicate with and educate parents regarding the need for increased rigor in your school. 17 ACT College Readiness Benchmarks ACT SubjectArea Test ASPIRE ASPIRE ASPIRE Benchmark Benchmark Benchmark Grade 6 Grade 7 Grade 8 ASPIRE Benchmark Grade 9 ASPIRE Benchmark Grade 10 ACT Benchmark Math 420 422 425 428 432 22 Reading 421 423 424 425 428 22 Science 423 425 427 430 432 23 18 Sample ASPIRE Test Analysis 19 EXPECTATIONS OF THE SCHOOL/DISTRICT 20 Commitments • A desire & commitment to establish the recommended course sequence and to increase the rigor of the math, science & English COURSES offered at the school • A desire & commitment to aggressively increase enrollment in math, science & English courses, and proactively using ASPIRE and PLAN data to measure success • A commitment to add AP courses in subsequent years • A willingness to make policy changes to achieve these goals 21 Commitments (continued) • Establish vertical team meetings with the feeder middle school(s) • Administer a 9th grade summative assessment for 2015 school year • Ensure that middle school LTF-infused courses are implemented • Share all data associated with program elements, including enrollment, Aspire data, and other collegereadiness related data 22 Financial Commitments • Cover travel expenses associated with teachers’ attendance at NMSI’s LTF trainings • Provide substitutes for pre-AP teacher training in the fall 23 TIMELINE & NEXT STEPS Pipeline School Timeline April 1, 2015 June/July, 2015 July 2015 August, 2014 Fall 2015 Submit personnel information for 2015-2016 Teachers attend NMSI’s Laying the Foundation Training Administrators attend one day training LTF-infused Courses Begin and Student Data shared One Day Training Early October, 2014 Submit RFP to participate in Cohort IX Contact Information A+ College Ready 1230 1st Avenue North Birmingham, Alabama 35203 Telephone: 205-257-5349 Facsimile: 205-257-5344 Website: www.apluscollegeready.org Mary Boehm, President – marydboehm@bellsouth.net Teri Thompson, Chief Program Officer– teri@aplusala.org Andrew Mitchell, Data and Communications Director – andrew@aplusala.org Liz Walston, Director of Training - lizw@aplusala.org Kitty Morgan, Math Content Director – kitty@aplusala.org Diann Frucci, English Content Director – diann@aplusala.org Robert Summers, Science Content Director - robert@aplusala.org Jenifer Glover, Finance Manager - jenifer@aplusala.org
