Why Service Learning?

Service learning instills a sense of civic responsibility, promotes compassionate leadership and inspires personal and cultural awareness.

Students will develop as future global citizens as they:

Make authentic connections with other cultures and people

Understand global issues and offer local solutions

Apply academic, social and personal skills to improve the community

Make decisions that have real, not hypothetical, results

Earn service hours

Our group will spend quality time in the community, getting to know the people and their way of life.

Through these authentic connections, students will make a valuable impact on the lives of locals

—and an eye-opening, life-changing impact on their own lives.

In order to protect their home, community members of Palo Seco must continue to reforest mangrove trees to keep their coastline stable. This tour allows students to discover firsthand the solutions to stabilizing the ecosystems involved. In addition to your Service Learning activities, you’ll enjoy the biodiversity of this beautiful country from every angle by visiting the hot springs of the Arenal region, hiking to La Fortuna Waterfall, visiting INBioparque, taking an exciting canopy tour and even going kayaking.
