Parent Information iDogs Objectives O Provide each student at Thorndale High School with an iPad to provide tools and resources to the 21st century learner. O Technology and a thorough understanding of its use is imperative for success in the current and future job market. O There are countless applications that can be utilized toward individualized learning and interests. iDog Goals O The school learning environment will improve by supporting and fostering teaching and learning with 21st century tools O Students will achieve higher levels of mastery of all subjects O Students will have an engaging, relevant experience with curriculum materials O Communication among parents, teachers and students should increase through the use of an iPad iDog Goals O Teachers will improve their teaching by modeling adaptable and flexible teaching and learning strategies O All students at THS will have equal access to iPad devices for use in their classes and at home O Sustain TTIPS Grant programs and Critical Success Factors Important Dates O March 19 & March 27 – Parent Meeting O Sunday, April 6 – Pre-Release Party 3-5pm O Monday, April 7 – iPads handed out to remaining students Students will receive O An iPad O A Survivor Case O A Power Brick O A Power Cord O All materials must be returned at the end of the school year in the same condition that they were received What will this cost you? O TISD will require a once a year Usage Fee of $10 in order for students to receive their iPad O This fee will serve as insurance for the iPad O Students may also be charged up to $50 to repair or replace devices How can I pay the usage fee? O You may pay here today O Students can bring payment to Jimmy Birch, Lindsey Daniell, or Bill Ihlenfeldt in the Middle School office iPad Expectations at School O All students are expected to have their iPad fully O O O O charged and ready for use each school day The iPad must stay in the Survivor case given to students by TISD The case may not be changed in any way (no stickers, decorations, etc.) Power brick and cord can be kept at home Teachers will receive staff development throughout the year on instruction using the iPad iDog Pledge Highlights O I will never leave my iPad unattended O I will never loan my iPad to others O I will protect my iPad (keep away from food, drink, damage, etc.) O I will follow the TISD Acceptable Use Policy O I will return my iPad at the end of the school year (or if unenrolled, etc.) O I will use internet resources for educational purposes only TISD Acceptable Use Policy Highlights O Follow all district, state, and federal O O O O regulations regarding internet use Video record and photograph only approved content Use email and other communication responsibly Bullying is not tolerated Keep your account information private What if something happens? O Fees for loss or damage O O O O O Power cord - $10 Power brick - $20 iPad Case - $45 (Includes stickers, etc) Broken iPad - $50 deductible Lost or Stolen iPad – file a police report, $50 deductible O If the iPad is not returned at the end of the year or upon termination of enrollment, the replacement cost for the iPad is due. A Police Report will be filed. You are In Charge at Home O Make a plan for how you will manage the technology at home O Some ideas include: O Creating a scheduled time for working on the device O Designating a place in your home for working online O Designating a place to charge the device over night so that you remember it in the morning Internet Access at Home O Students do not have access to the internet from your home unless you provide it for them O Public internet access is available at certain locations across town Don’t want them online after school? O As the parent, feel free to see what your child is working on O Please take up the iPad at home until it is convenient for you to monitor your child Internet Access at Home O We realize many of your students have access to the Internet from their phones or at home, and you are already working with them to be safe online. O We want to continue to partner with you to teach your child to use the Internet responsibly and efficiently. Internet Access at School O Internet access at school will continue to be filtered and monitored by TISD The App Store, iTunes and Apple ID O Students will be able to download apps and iTunes content onto the iPad O Students may use an existing Apple ID (login and password) that they have created previously O A credit card is not needed to create an Apple ID Questions?
