JUNIOR SECONDARY
Junior Secondary is a phase of education in
Queensland state secondary schools for Years 7,
8 and 9, which helps to ensure the bridge
between primary and secondary school is safe,
strong and consistent for all students.
Transitioning to High School
This period of time is already associated with huge
physical, cognitive, and emotional changes, in
addition to this there is social and academic change
of moving to high school.
Parents and caregivers also travel this path with
their children and, for many, it is equally
overwhelming!
JUNIOR SECONDARY
Junior Secondary will focus on age
appropriate education and support for
students’ wellbeing and transitions.
JUNIOR SECONDARY
Teenagers don’t always have a lot of self-control
or good judgment and are more prone to risktaking behaviour. This is because the selfmonitoring, problem-solving and decision-making
part of the brain – the prefrontal cortex –
develops last.
JUNIOR SECONDARY
• Research shows that both parents and students are
apprehensive about coming to high school
• Charleville State High School is a very supportive
school and we aim to ensure that we cater for each
and every students needs.
• Charleville State High School has been working with
the primary schools to ensure, that we have as many
similar processes in place, to allow for a seamless
transition from upper primary to junior secondary
school.
JUNIOR SECONDARY
At Charleville State High School we are well
prepared and have the right people and planning
in place to ensure that your student’s education is
well looked after.
Education is a partnership. We look forward to
getting to know you over the next six years of
your child’s education.
YOU ARE ALWAYS WELCOME AT

• Every Junior Secondary teacher will follow the
Explicit Teaching methodology which is embedded
in the Charleville State High School pedagogical
model.
• This ensures teachers are working to standard
expectations and enhances consistency of practice.
• Students will know what the objective of each
lesson is, the input from them necessary to achieve
this and the link to the bigger picture- e.g. further
study in this area, assessment piece, career options.
• Research shows that in the Junior Secondary sector
the Pedagogy encompassed by this method
improves student outcomes.
