• Jobs for America’s Graduates “JAG” is a school-to-work
model for at-risk and disadvantaged young people across the
U.S.
• Incepted in 1980 – serving its 1,000,000th student this year
• In 2012 – 2013:
• 31 states
• 895 local programs
• 44,044 participants served

JAG National Results (2013):
• 91% graduation rate in the nearly 1,000 classrooms
where JAG operates, from the most rural to the most urban.
• Doubling the rate of employment for poor and
disadvantaged youth and tripling the rate of full-time
employment compared to their counterparts.
• Doubling the rate of enrollments in higher education for
this population, almost entirely first-generation college
students.

JAG Michigan – Model Program Applications
Multi-Year Program. Dropout prevention program serving
students (9th to 12th grade) who display significant barriers to
graduation or transitioning into post-secondary education or
the labor market, including 12 months of post-graduation
follow-up services.
Senior Program. School-to-work transition system for high
school seniors most at risk of not completing high school or
successfully transitioning into post-secondary education or the
labor market, including 12 months of post-graduation followup services.
JAG Michigan – Model Program Applications
Alternative Education. Late-stage dropout prevention
program serving students (9th to 12th grade) unable to
succeed in traditional high school.
Out-of-School Program. Dropout recovery program serving
youth (16-24 years) who left the traditional school system and
want to complete requirements for a diploma or GED. JAG
also assists them in securing a quality job leading to a career
and/or enrollment in a post-secondary education program.
Early College Success Program. A collegiate-based
dropout prevention program helping at-risk students in the
10th-12th grades successfully complete their first year of
college and ensure graduation with a degree, certificate,
diploma, or transfer to another college.
JAG Michigan – Return to School Rate
Out of 282 Michigan participants who were eligible to
return to school in September 2013:
• 182 enrolled in same high school (64.5%)
• 50 enrolled in a different high school in the same district
(17.7%)
• 36 enrolled in a different high school in a different district
(12.7%)
• 3 did not return to high school, enrolled in
GED program (1.06%)

Statewide outcomes for the 2012-2013 school year
•95% graduation rate (goal 90%)
•76% experienced a positive outcome (goal 80%)
•40% were employed in a job in the public or private sector
(goal 60%)
•35% were employed in a full-time job (goal 60%)
•75% were in a full-time placement (goal 80%)
•41% were enrolled in post-secondary
education

JAG Michigan Funding
• Received $1,010,000 JAG expansion grant from the State of
Michigan’s Workforce Development Agency for 2014-2015.
• Received $1,250,000 commitment for the City of Detroit over
three period to establish JAG programming in DPS.
• Funding through Altria Foundation, Bosch, Coast 98.3, and
United Way of Southwest Michigan.
• Pending requests into Charles Stewart Mott Foundation,
AT&T Foundation, and Ford Foundation.
• Working towards legislative appropriation for JAG Michigan.
How does WIOA affect JAG Michigan?
• The recent WIOA legislation will have an implication on the
JAG Michigan program.
• Specifically, the legislation requires that 75% of WIOA
dollars be spent on Out of School Youth.
• Remember JAG Michigan is a dropout prevention AND
recovery program… it includes Out of School Youth
