Christchurch Agency for Energy (CAfE) • 27 September, 2007 – Christchurch City Council adopts the Sustainable Energy Strategy for Christchurch 2008-18 • Major initiative is the establishment of the Christchurch Agency form Energy as a charitable trust • Major purpose of the trust is to be the implementation of the Strategy action plan and the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy in Christchurch • December 2009 to February 2010 – In conjunction with interested parties Trust deed developed • Current status – Report being prepared for Christchurch City Council re formation of CAfE Purpose of CAfE (as per Draft Trust Deed) • To raise awareness in Christchurch of energy efficiency initiatives and the use of renewable energy by providing information and advice to the general public, homeowners, students, Energy Expo attendees, high energy users, commercial and industrial energy users and motorists. • To promote the use of renewable energy in Christchurch through the evaluation of sites for production of renewable energy, encouraging the use of biofuels and encouraging the use of solar heating. • To reduce the local and wider environmental problems caused by the use of fossil fuels in Christchurch. Purpose of CAfE (as per Draft Trust Deed) • To introduce initiatives to address the negative health and social impacts caused by fuel poverty and energy affordability issues in Christchurch. • As an ancillary purpose to the above purposes, to gather meaningful and current energy data on energy usage in Christchurch.
