Designated parking areas are outside the site office for light vehicles and on the other side of the orange barriers for all work vehicles. Please ensure to reverse park in a safe and orderly fashion. No vehicles are to park on the adjacent residential roads at any time. Fire extinguisher will also be placed at any hot work operations and in work shop containers. Carry out or ask for further Risk assessments to be carried out if think the existing one is inadequate or that the way you need to carry your task has changed. Do not use any tools unless you have been trained and are competent to use them. Only use plant, tools & lifting equipment that carries the correct & current certification. Do not forget to carry out or have a Risk assessment carried out, for, Lifting operations, Manual Handling, Working at Height, Excavations, ie any work task that carries a potential risk to you or others around you. construction site induction Housekeeping and the environment Good house keeping is the start to a happy site. Please use the skips provided for your rubbish, do not litter the site, the canteen or your working area. If you see others dropping litter or working untidily tell them or your supervisor. construction site induction Site Rules Strict compliance with the conditions of the Principal Contractor’s and the VolkerInfra “Construction Phase Health and Safety Plan” is required at all times. 1. No unauthorised person shall be allowed access to the site. All visitors shall report to the Site Manager/Supervisor. All personnel shall carry some form of identification at all times, proof of identity will be required before allowing access to site. 2. All persons shall receive site safety induction training before being allowed onsite. 3. All persons shall record the time of their arrival and departure from site. construction site induction Site Rules 4 All site personnel & visitors to site shall wear:• safety helmets to EN 397, with chin strap if working at height • lace-up type safety boots with toe and sole protection - EN 345 offering adequate ankle support, and mid-sole protection. Riggers boots will not be allowed. • suitable eye protection –minimum EN166F, • suitable hand protection – (Gloves) - EN 388 for the task being carried out. NB Gloves may be “carried” when not working • Overalls coveralls or other suitable work wear must be worn that protect an operatives arms, body and legs . • and yellow high visibility waistcoat or jacket – EN 471. • The Banksman directing traffic or lifting operations shall wear an orange high visibility waistcoat or jacket. construction site induction Site Rules 5 Site fencing shall be kept closed at all times except briefly to allow the passage of vehicles or personnel when they shall be supervised by a person authorised to do so. 6 Safety harnesses will be used – a. where employees are working at a height where they could fall a distance that could result in injury ( unless “fall restraint” is being employed other means of preventing or mitigating the consequences of a fall must be employed) b. in circumstances other than a & b above where there is a risk of falling a suitable and sufficient risk assessment shall be carried out and adequate controls established and implemented. construction site induction Site Rules 7 Compliance with Principal Contractors Safety Rules as applicable is required at all times 8 The use of Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT) are mandatory, even though you may have used cable locators for many years, please have a look at the following. 9 construction site induction construction site induction construction site induction construction site induction 10 No smoking in any site buildings, cabins, the working area(s) or within 5 metres of any flammable products e.g. diesel fuel tanks .gas cylinders etc. Smoking materials shall only be discarded via the receptacles provided for that purpose. Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking area(s) 11 The drinking of alcohol and drug abuse will not be permitted on the construction site. construction site induction 12 No persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs shall attend or be allowed to enter the construction site. 13 Use of Welding and Flame Cutting equipment is not permitted, unless specifically agreed in advance by the Principal Contractor and only under a Hot Works Permit.. 14 No waste shall be allowed to leave site without completion of a Waste Transfer Note (non hazardous waste) or a Waste Consignment Note (hazardous waste) Waste shall be placed in suitable receptacles. All waste leaving site must be entered into the Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) 15 No plant, equipment lifting tackle etc. shall be put to work without current certification available on site. 16 Plant shall only be operated by trained and competent personnel authorised to do so. construction site induction 17 No work shall commence unless a Risk Assessment has been carried out and a Method Statement detailing the safe system of work to be adopted has been accepted by the Principal Contractor and explained to all persons engaged in the works. 18 No deviation from Method Statements, which have been accepted, will be tolerated. Any changes must be submitted to the Principal Contractor and must be agreed by all interested parties before being accepted by the Principal Contractor and implementation allowed to proceed. 19 Lifting Operations shall be planned by an “Appointed Person”. All lifting Operations shall be carried out by competent slingers & banksmen. 20 All personnel shall follow the designated routes giving safe access/egress to/from the work place and shall keep the site of their work clean, tidy and clear of obstructions. All floors and walkways shall be kept clear of materials, in order that a secure footing can be maintained. construction site induction Site Rules 21 All personnel shall at all times ensure precautions are taken so as not to pollute the atmosphere, ground or waters. 22 The lighting of fires is strictly prohibited. 23 No excavation/ground penetration works shall be allowed without a permit to dig . 24 All Accidents/Incidents/Near misses shall be reported immediately to the Volker Wessels Call Centre 0800 169 6150 construction site induction Site Rules 25 The use of mobile telephones other than “company supplied” mobile telephones in the work area is prohibited. The use of any mobile telephone whilst operating any mobile plant or other equipment is strictly prohibited. 26 All vehicles using the car park area shall “reverse park” 27 All Traffic Management will follow specific procedures like the Safety at Street Works and Road Works (Red Book Code of Practice) the Captor 8 Regulations 2008 or any Traffic Management Plan that is approved by the local Highway Authority. construction site induction Site Rules 28 Failure to comply with any site rules may result in expulsion from site. 29 The Site Rules shall be made available at all work sites. Minor violation (by act or omission) of Site Rules may be dealt with by caution (to include warning of exclusion in the event of future violation). Serious violation of Site Rules (by act or omission) will result in formal warning (and confirmation that repetition would result in immediate exclusion from site). Gross violation of Site Rules (by act or omission) will result in immediate exclusion from site. Flagrant breach of any Site Rule is liable to exclusion from the site. Any exclusion from site shall be permanent. Each individual working area is covered by their own individual RAMS i.e. Method Statement, Task Plan and associated Risk Assessments. These will need to be read and understood by all site staff prior to works commencing onsite. You will all need to sign onto these documents. IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING, DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK AS NOT UNDERSTANDING LATER WILL NOT BE A DEFENCE IN A COURT OF LAW. construction site induction Self protection Always wear the correct PPE for the task that you are carrying out. If you don’t have it ask your Supervisor or the Site Manager. Standards identify the behavioural requirements necessary to prevent, or minimise, the consequences of an environmental incident. Violation of these site standards could be an important contributor towards pollution. Therefore, management considers the following standards appropriate.
