Our planet is in Danger! Внеклассное мероприятие по английскому языку в рамках школьного Фестиваля Наук для старших классов Учителя: Сорокина О.А. и Менжунова Н.А. Save our planet, before it’s too late! Humans have been living on this planet for two million year, and in the last two hundred years humans have made a mast of the planet chopped trees killed animals, polluted air, land, water, e.t.c. Because of that, we now have a lot of problems. Ill name jast a few of them: the greenhouse effect, killing forest and animals, water air and land polluted, rubbish problems, nudear power, e.t.c. It’s easy for us to see what we are doing to the air we breathe water we drink garbage we throw out! What about the habitat we don’t see? We don’t see them they are for away from us. What does it have it do with us? It is difficult to understand, but everything on the planet is interconnected and when something goes wrong in some part of the world, everybody loses. Our Planet is in Danger! Polluting gasses fall as acid rains. Large forests and a lot of Lakes have been rained already. Smoking chimneys and car exhaust pipes are pumping tons of rubbish into the air all the time, and we breathe it in. The air in Belgorod is very much polluted. People feel it without any test. Doctors say that only 2 – 3 per cent of healthy babies are born in Belgorod. The water is very much polluted too. People can not bathe in the Vezelka River. Our Planet is in Danger! Other examples: 1) In 1972 Finland and Russia had the hottest heat wave for over 100 years. 2) In 1976 Europe had the worst drought for 100 years. 3) In 1989 Britain had the longest and the hottest summer since people started to keep information about the weather. 4) In 1990 Sweden had the warmest February for 300 years. Our Planet is in Danger! A giant iceberg, the size of Hong Kong, is slowly melting. It is the world’s largest iceberg. It broke away from Antarctic. It was 152 km long and 35 km wide. Now it is 10 km shorter because it is melting. Many years ago people lived in harmony with the environment because industry was not much developed. Now the situation is quite different. People all over the world cannot ignore the problem of the protection of the environment because of modern industry and the need for energy. Newspapers and magazines write a lot of about water pollution, air pollution and land pollution. There are some laws and decisions on this important question. There are state organizations and international conventions which pay much attention to this problem. Many parts of the world are crowded now, much of our waste, especially waste from factories, electric power stations, the chemical industry and heavy industry are very dangerous. Fish dies in the lakes, rivers and seas, forest trees die too. The problem of radiation has also become a very important problem because it is very dangerous for health of people. There is a science, named ecology, which study the relation between people and their environment. But each of us also do everything possible to keep our environment clean for ourselves and for the next generations. We all love our native land, remarkably beautiful Russian nature with its blue lakes and ribbons of rivers, edged with thick forests with its endless expanses of fields meadows and swamps with its varied animal and plant kingdom. Nature is a source of man’s prosperity, we are the children of the nature and we are eternally indebted to it. As everyone admires the beauty of nature each of us must at the same time be filled with the sense of responsibility and concern for its protectional and thrifty of its riches. Nature is an involved complex where all the components are closely intermixed and interdependent. That means that humankind must be very careful in usage of natural resources in order to avert damaging consequences. But let me down to the topic of my report – the protection of the environment. A great helper in this noble task is the science of ecology, which reveals the links and makes forecasts if the people start imporer business somewhere. Besides the ecology faces different programmers connected with ecological disasters and environmental holocausts like Chernobyl, for example. Let’s have a glimpse of Russian nature. The lands and forests are wonderful; we can find broad – leaved groves pine and fir forests. The republic has over 10, 000 lakes. More than 58 types of fish in our rives and lakes. Every autumn 160 types of birds migrate southwards and return to their native, parts in spring. And there are 286 types of birds overall in Russia.
