Wadi Digla Protected Area
Wadi Digla was declared
as a Protected Area in
1999, with an area of 60
km2. It is desert land
located 10 km away from
Cairo.
Biodiversity
-At least 12 species of birds typical of the Eastern
Desert have been found.
-At least 20 species of reptiles are known from Wadi
Degla.
-Over 75 wild flowering plants have been recorded.

The Cairo Governorate should take positive steps to achieve three main goals:
• The first goal is to eliminate all the accumulated wastes from the protectorate.
• The second goal is to move the recycling activity based within or near the
protectorate to another area.
• The third goal is to encourage local people, NGOs and students to visit
the wadi and help to remove the wastes.
