What’s so special about the Bible?
• There are approximately
2,500 prophecies in the
Bible
• About 2,000 have already
been fulfilled …to the letter
• The remaining 500 reach
into the future and are still
being fulfilled
Deuteronomy 18:21-22
21
And if you say in your heart,
'How shall we know the word
which the LORD has not
spoken?'
22 when a prophet speaks in the
name of the LORD, if the thing
does not happen or come to
pass, that is the thing which the
LORD has not spoken; the
prophet has spoken it
presumptuously; you shall not
be afraid of him.
THE DESTRUCTION OF TYRE
Ezekiel 26
THE DESTRUCTION OF TYRE
Ezekiel 26:3-4
3
Therefore thus says the Lord
GOD: 'Behold, I am against you,
O Tyre, and will cause many
nations to come up against you,
as the sea causes its waves to
come up.
4 And they shall destroy the
walls of Tyre and break down
her towers; I will also scrape her
dust from her, and make her like
the top of a rock.
Ezekiel 26:7
7
Thus says the Lord GOD:
'Behold, I will bring against Tyre
from the north Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon
Fulfilled in 585 BC through 573
BC when Nebuchadnezzar seized
the city of Tyre.
Ezekiel 26:8-9
8
He will heap up a siege mound
against you, build a wall against
you, and raise a defense against
you.
9
He will direct his battering
rams against your walls, and
with his axes he will break down
your towers.
Ezekiel 26:8
10
Because of the abundance of
his horses, their dust will cover
you; your walls will shake at the
noise of the horsemen, the
wagons, and the chariots, when
he enters your gates, as men
enter a city that has been
breached.
11
With the hooves of his horses
he will trample all your streets;
he will slay your people by the
sword, and your strong pillars
will fall to the ground.
Ezekiel 26:12
12
They will plunder your riches
and pillage your merchandise;
they will break down your walls
and destroy your pleasant
houses; they will lay your stones,
your timber, and your soil in the
midst of the water
Fulfilled in 332 BC when
Alexander the Great was
expanding his empire
“Probably the most famous episode in the history of
Tyre was its resistance to the army of the
Macedonian conqueror Alexander the Great, who
took it after a seven month siege in in 332 BC using
floating batteries and building a causeway to gain
access to the island. After its capture, 10,000 of the
inhabitants were put to death and 30,000 were sold
into slavery. Alexander’s causeway, which was never
removed, permanently converted the island into a
peninsula.”
Encyclopedia Britannica (Vol. X, pg. 223)
Ezekiel 26:14
14
I will make you like the top of
a rock; you shall be a place for
spreading nets, and you shall
never be rebuilt, for I the LORD
have spoken,' says the Lord GOD.
THE FALL OF BABYLON
Jeremiah 50
Jeremiah 50:1-3 & 51:64
1
The word that the LORD spoke
against Babylon…
2
Say, 'Babylon is taken…
3
For out of the north a nation
comes up against her, which
shall make her land desolate,
and no one shall dwell therein.
64
Babylon shall sink and not rise
from the catastrophe that I will
bring upon her.
Jeremiah 51:58
58
Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“The broad walls of Babylon
shall be utterly broken, and her
high gates shall burn with fire.”
Outer wall was 344 feet high and
86 feet wide
Inner wall was 75 feet high and
32 feet wide
Both walls were surrounded by a
deep, wide moat
Jeremiah 50:26
26
Cast her up as heaps of ruins,
and destroy her utterly; let
nothing of her be left
Jeremiah 51:37
37
Babylon shall become a heap,
a dwelling place for jackals, an
astonishment and a hissing,
without an inhabitant
“The present site (of Babylon’s walls) is an extensive
field of ruins and contains several prominent
mounds.”
Encyclopedia Britannica (Vol. II, pg. 556)
Jeremiah 51:42-43
42
The sea has come up over
Babylon; She is covered with the
multitude of its waves.
43
Her cities are a desolation, a
dry land and a wilderness…
“For the space of two months throughout the year
the ruins of Babylon are inundated by the annual
overflowing of the Euphrates so as to render many
parts of them inaccessible by converting the valleys
into swamps..”
Rich’s Memoirs; pg. 13
“After the subsiding of the waters, even the low
heaps become again sunburnt ruins and the sight of
Babylon is like that of the other cities of Chaldea, a
dry waste, a parched and burning plain.”
Buckingham’s Travels; Vol. II, pgs. 302-305
Jeremiah 50:13
13
Because of the wrath of the
LORD she shall not be inhabited,
but she shall be wholly desolate
Jeremiah 50:39-40
39
It shall be inhabited no more
forever, nor shall it be dwelt in
from generation to generation.
40
no one shall reside there, nor
son of man dwell in it.
“…he now founded Alexandria at the mouth of
Tigris…suddenly while busy with plans to improve the
irrigation of the Euphrates and to settle the coast of
the Persian Gulf, Alexander was taken ill after a
prolonged banquet and drinking bought; ten days
later, on June 13, 323, he died in his 33rd year.”
Encyclopedia Britannica (Vol. I, pg. 472)
“When Saddam Hussein rose to power in Iraq, he
conceived a grandiose scheme to rebuild the ancient
City of Babylon. Saddam Hussein said that Babylon's
great palaces would rise from dust. Like the powerful
King Nebuchadnezzar who conquered Jerusalem
2,500 years ago, Saddam Hussein would rule over
the world's greatest empire.”
