Osorb® Media
Osorb is a highly porous and flexible polysilsesquioxane. The
network expands upon absorption of organic liquids and vapors.
Absorbs:
Solvents
Lipids
Pharmaceuticals
Does not absorb water
Swelling is due nanomechanical expansion of a mesoporous silica matrix.

Other features of Osorb media
1. Reactive metal particles (ex. Fe0) can be incorporated into Osorb.
2. Osorb is biocompatible and resists biofilm formation.
3. Adsorption is reversible allow processes such as in situ bioregeneration.
4. NSF 61 certification currently in progress.

Drinking Water: Osorb®-Metal Composites
Al-Osorb
-
Fe-Osorb
Mg-Osorb
Ni-Osorb
Zn-Osorb
Metal-Osorb composites can be
manufactured. Fe-Osorb preferred.
- Examined reduction of motor oil, nitrate,
phosphate, atrazine, estradiol, triclosan, and
ethylene glycol.
- Continue research to determine reduction
mechanism and longevity.

Osorb System - General Concept Design
Osorb is mixed 0.2-1% in the soil near the rhizosphere layer to buffer contaminants.

Bio-Mix Osorb® Enhanced Bioswale
Why Osorb?: It is mixed in soil (1%) and absorbs toxins
from stormwater inputs protecting plants and animals
BioMix-Osorb is a blend of glass which when added to swales and filter strips will
allow 30-90% improvements on nutrient controls.

Industrial Bioswale Design
Pollutant Loads and Removal Efficiencies
a Net mass removal (%) for each runoff event performed by integrating hourly flow rate and concentration data collected from influent and effluent.
b Spiked solution consisted of nitrate (50 g N), phosphate (50 g P), atrazine (500 mg), 2,4-D (500 mg), Cu (20 g), Pb (20 g), and Zn (60 g) were added
into the
bioretention system during a rainfall event
