ECO-CEMENT(FP7) New microbial carbonate precipitation technology for the production of high strength, economical and Ecological Cement Crystal formation on the surface of B. subtilis cells by SEM microscopy EU contribution: ~1.6 Mio € Total budget of the project: ~2.3 Mio € Duration: 36 months Starting date: 01/03/2011 Coordinator: Grupo Essentium (SP) Partners: Fraunhofer (DE), CNR (IT), Solintel (SP), DW EcoCo (IE) and Neapolis University (CY). Aim: Develop novel bio-mimetic technology for enzyme-based microbial carbonate precipitation through the revalorization of industrial waste as raw materials, in order to produce eco-efficient environmental cement. Achievements: None, as the project began on the 1st of March 2012. Why does it matter? This technology can reduce GHG emissions from cement manufacturing by up to 11%, and reduction of 27% in production cost compared to traditional cement. Sustainable Cement Industry: Waste valorization of the cement industry using bioreactor for production of new cement.
