HEC follows strict criteria for recognition of journals
No Research Journal of BU has recognition by HEC.
In recent ranking, BU got NIL out of five.

Experts groups certify that they are top, recognized journals in the subject of
archival quality.

reviewed by at least one expert from an Industrially/Academically
advanced country in the respective discipline.

Criteria for HEC Recognized Journals
Old journals published regularly should meet the following
criteria in order to prove the regularity / punctuality:
Annual publication
It should have published 5 issues
in the last 5 years
Six monthly publication
It should have published 6 issues
in the last 3 years
Quarterly publication
It should have published 8 issues
in the last 2 years
Monthly publication
It should have published 24
issues in the 2 years

The New journals published should meet the following criteria
in order to prove the regularity / punctuality:
Annual publication
It should have published 2 issues
in the last 2 years
Six monthly publication
It should have published 6 issues
in the last 3 years
Quarterly publication
It should have published 8 issues
in the last 2 years
Monthly publication
It should have published 12
issues in the last one year
Criteria for HEC Recognized Journals
 In case a journal started publication recently, it should
have completed atleast two years publication to meet the
criteria prior submission of application.
 The journal should have diverse Editorial Board / Advisory
Board:
The credentials of the Editorial Board members are to be
checked / verified prior consideration.
• Fifty percent of the Editorial Board members should be
from the outside.

Criteria for HEC Recognized Journals
The journal should be ‘ Peer Reviewed’ :

•
The policy of blind review should be followed, which
means, that only the texts of the articles without names
of authors are to be sent for review.
• Peer reviewed atleast by 02 reviewers (including one
international reviewer i.e from industrially / academically
advanced country in the respective discipline).

The
journal
should
be
abstracted
/
indexed
internationally. ‘Abstracting / Indexing services’ as posted
on HEC website http://www.hec.gov.pk.
Criteria for HEC Recognized Journals
The HEC criteria in nutshell is as under:
“ A journal published regularly, having diverse editorial /
advisory board, peer reviewed by atleast two reviewers
(including one international) and abstracted / indexed
internationally”.
COMMON SHORT COMMINGS IN THE APPLICATION FORMS

Incomplete filling in of Application forms.
Missing details of both local & international experts /
reviewers.
Continuous / regular publication of atleast four journals
is mandatory prior applying for recognition.
A review record of last three / four issues is to be
provided on prescribed format alongwith proof of the
reviewer’s remarks.
No international abstracting / indexing of journals on
Abstracting / Indexing Services as posted on HEC
website.
Recommendations
• Editors & Publishers of Research Journals of BU are to follow
strictly the criteria of HEC.
• All columns of application forms are to be filled properly .
• 50% members of the Additional Board are to be from outside BU.
• Peer – Review of all articles of the Journals are to be submitted with
remarks alongwith Application Forms.
• Editors / Publishers are to make efforts with abstaracting / indexing
agencies of their particular fields for registration while recognition
request is under process at HEC.
• Articles must be free from any form of plagiarism.
