STELLAR OBSERVATIONS NETWORK GROUP (SONG) Chinese SONG team Speaker: Jianning Fu (Beijing Normal University) 2010.10.16 SONG PROJECT To install 8 1-m telescopes at 8 sites around the equator, to compose the SONG network. To make High-precision continuous radial-velocity observations for individual stars, to study the internal structures of the target stars in detail with asteroseismological technique. To make high time-resolution high-precision photometric observations for the stars in the bulge of the Galaxy, to search for earth-like exoplanets. Initialized by Danish astronomers. Distribution of the SONG telescopes Dome of SONG telescope 1-meter telescope Spectrograph Primary object of SONG: 1. Asteroseismology: Long-duration high-duty-cycle high-precision radial velocity curves 2. Searching for exoplanets with the microlensing effect: High duty-cycle moderate duration high-precision photometry for crowded star regions Chinese SONG plan: 1. By setting up a SONG node in China, to make international collaboration and competition in the front edge field of stellar physics. 2. To build up Mini-SONG, the first Chinese global observation network located at the best sites of the world. SCHEDULE OF CHINESE SONG PLAN Started in May of 2009; Agreement of collaboration between China and Denmark signed in September of 2009; Agreement of collaboration among Denmark, China, and the USA for the network of northern hemisphere signed in December of 2009; The third SONG workshop held in Beijing in March of 2010; Mini-SONG project proposed2 in March of 2010. PROGRESS Site investigation started in January of 2010: Site test in Delingha; Data being collected for the other candidate sites; Composition of teams and schedule decided in January of 2010.
