Pharma Science Center
The construction of new buildings for the Pharma School under the
Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Copenhagen will rectify a
comprehensive and urgent need for more laboratories in the fields of
chemistry, biology and technical pharmacology. By establishing shared
facilities where scientists from different departments within the faculty
can interact and undertake collaborative work, the development will also
strengthen interdisciplinary academic research.
Location: Universitetsparken
Land holder: Bygningsstyrelsen
Size: 5,100 m2
Budget: DKK 0.2 billion
Deadline: 2015
Mærsk Building
Panum currently houses the Faculty of Health Sciences at the
University of Copenhagen, whose international biomedical research
environment will be further strengthened by the addition of the Mærsk
Building to the complex. A group of consulting architects headed by C.F.
Møller won the international design competition in 2010, and their
vertical building plan ensures plenty of room at ground level for green
spaces and urban life. From 2015, The Mærsk Building will be the
home of front line research in fields where decisive work is undertaken
towards the treatment of cancer, dementia, diabetes, heart disease and
allergies. The physical setting of the development aims to improve
study - and working environments.
Location: Panum
Land holder: Bygningsstyrelsen
Size: 37,200 m2
Budget: DKK 1.6 billion
Deadline: 2015
Extension of Copenhagen University Hospital
Through an extension and renovation of its grounds, Copenhagen
University Hospital intends to consolidate its position as an academic
spearhead institution as well as a highly specialized hospital. The
Science City routes stand to improve the connection between the
hospital and the rest of Science City. Additions will include a treatment
centre with new private rooms, state-of-the art operating rooms, an
intensive care department, outpatient departments and facilities for
image diagnostics, as well as support services.
Location: Copenhagen University Hospital
Land holder: Capital Region of Denmark
Size: 76,100 m2
Budget: DKK 2.4 billion
Deadline: 2018
Niels Bohr Building
The Danish University and Property Agency has begun construction on
the Niels Bohr Building, a new building development for the Faculty of
Science (SCIENCE) at the University of Copenhagen. This
development will result in an entirely new setting for communication,
education and the research conducted in the fields of physics,
chemistry, computer sciences, mathematics, and science didactics at
the University of Copenhagen. Local plan and finance act was
completed in May 2013 and the new buildings will be in use by mid2016.
Location: Universitetsparken, Haraldsgadekvarteret
Land holder: Bygningsstyrelsen
Size: 52,000 m2
Budget: DKK 1.5 billion
Deadline: 2016

permanent residency is also possible. The localisation prospects are under
continual expansion through collaboration between private and public land
and property owners. Find an up-to-date, searchable overview of current
opportunities via Map site.
Office rentals offered by COBIS, Symbion and DARE2mansion.
Those who are engaged in research collaborations with University of
Copenhagen have the opportunity to be located temporarily at a university
location.
COBIS 2
COBIS, science park and incubator specializing in biotech, opened its
doors in 2009, and was named the world’s best within its field in 2012.
An extension of COBIS now provides 7,000 additional square meters
for a combination of office and lab facilities. The extension will be able
to accommodate an additional 25-30 businesses and business
developments in life science, biomed and biotech.
Location: Universitetsparken
Land holder: COBIS Ejendom K/S

Shared facilities
Get access to test facilities, collections,
equipment, laboratories and other premises
Copenhagen Science City provides access to high cost facilities that would
otherwise be difficult or impossible for each business to establish or
maintain. These facilities offer an effective combination of cutting-edge
technology and know-how.
Collaborations with knowledge institutions may also include rental and use of other
facilities, such as laboratories, auditoriums, conference rooms and cafeterias.

Copenhagen University Hospital
Copenhagen University Hospital offers core-facilities for research and training in
the health sciences.
Metropolitan University College
The projected simulation center at Metropolitan University College will contain
facilities for welfare technology research, and may be used in collaboration with
customers and distributors. Images, pricing and service descriptions of
Metropolitan’s facilities can be found here.
Innovative entrepreneurs
Traineeships, cooperative partnerships and spin-outs
20.000 students pass through Copenhagen Science City on a daily basis. They all share a common
feature: a vivid interest in traineeships, student jobs, entrepreneurship and other types of
collaborative engagement with businesses. Contact between businesses and students is facilitated
by several Copenhagen Science City operators
Next Generation is a collaborative effort between KU, CBS and DTU, and a number of organisations with
experience in supporting innovation and development. Their common goal is to offer counseling and practical
assistance to students, researchers and the industrial sector in all stages of the innovation chain.
Katapult – Entrepreneurial Greenhouse has as its mission to support a culture of innovation and
entrepreneurship for students and educational staff at the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Health and
Medical Sciences. Katapult offers support and counseling to students who wish to start their own business
venture, or to participate in the advancement of innovation and development in existing businesses.
Copenhagen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lab is collaboration between KU, CBS and DTU that
embodies their joint ambition of providing useful case experience for students in close cooperation with
partners in the industrial sector. Students are offered a new perspective on their studies, and are encouraged
in the valuable development of ideas, utilizing their academic excellence to develop entrepreneurial skills.
Copenhagen Spinouts, in alliance with the industrial sector, aim to establish spinout companies based on
biotech research results from KU, DTU and the hospitals of Copenhagen. Their goal is to create 21 new
businesses by 2014 with the help of Industrial Biotech Food, Pharmaceuticals and MedTech Diagnostics.
The industrial partnership in this joint venture guarantees that experienced entrepreneurs will fill the roles of
mentors, while regional funding allows technology and implementation to mature.
Lundbeckfond Emerge is a strategic initiative by the Lundbeck Foundation which accelerates
commercialization of early scientific opportunities by way of investment and active project involvement. We
