Sharan Secretary (Department of Sports) 24th September, 2014 Department of Sports Achievements and New Initiatives 2 GLASGOW CWG-2014 • Indian sportspersons gave a spectacular performance by winning a total of 64 medals – 15 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze. • 28 medals by women athletes. • 12% of the total medallists were first timers. 3 NSDF TARGET OLYMPIC PODIUM (TOP) SCHEME • To identify and support potential medal prospects for 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. • Focus on seven sports – Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Wrestling, Weightlifting and Shooting. • Athletes to be selected after rigorous screening and scientific analysis by a High Level Committee under the chairmanship of Shri Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament. • Selected athletes will be provided customized training at best centres in India and abroad and their performance will be continuously monitored. 4 NSDF PRIZE MONEY TOURNAMENT CIRCUIT • In boxing, archery, wrestling and athletics. • To prepare domestic competition leading to improved quality and performance. • To enlarge the bench strength of top level athletes. • To give opportunities to young potential athletes to compete with top athletes in concerned categories. Boxing - Dec 14 to 18, 2014 Archery - Jan 15 to 19th 2015 5 NADA – IEC CAMPAIGN CALLED “PROGRAM FOR EDUCATION AND AWARNESS ON ANTI DOPING IN SPORTS (PEADS)” Objectives: • To create anti doping awareness among competing sportspersons and all other stakeholders. • To provide information on anti doping measures to all stakeholders. • To organize awareness / training workshops through sports institutions/ federations / associations / universities / colleges. • To conduct Continuing Medical Education (CME) on prohibited substances / methods for medical doctors and supporting personnel. 6 SPORTS AUTHORITY OF INDIA • National Academy for Swimming MoU with Australian Sports Academy for skill enhancement of Coaches, Life Guards and Technical Officials. • National Cycling Academy UCI (International Federation of Cycling) has agreed to declare the SAI Cycling National Academy as its satellite training centre for Asia. • National Academy for Athletics For Sprints and Jumps at Trivandrum; Middle and Long distance events at Bhopal and Throws at Rohtak. 7 NATIONAL SPORTS TALENT SEARCH SCHEME • Identification of Sporting Talent amongst children (Both Boys and Girls) in the age group of 8-12 in schools all over the country by conducting 6 battery of tests at each selection level. 8 SETTING UP OF JUNIOR SPORTS ACADEMIES AND NATIONAL SPORTS ACADEMIES. • Jr. Sports Academies to provide high quality coaching for sub-junior and junior athletes identified through the NSTSS. • National Sports Academies. 9 NATIONAL SPORTS UNIVERSITY, MANIPUR • To promote excellence in sports studies, sports science and sports teaching. • To become a Centre of Excellence for preparing and training the country’s elite athletes for National and International sports competitions. • To be the elite centre for research in physical education and sports sciences. • A provision of Rs.100 crore has also been made in the Budget 2014-15 for this purpose. 10 SPECIAL PACKAGE FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE FOR JAMMU & KASHMIR • Special package of Rs.200 crore allocated to the State for development of sports infrastructure. • Proposal submitted by J & K Government for Rs.200 crore with the following objectives: - Ultra modern & high tech facility in Stadia. - Maximum operational efficiency of each - Phasing of construction programmes. - Efficient management of movement of spectators, dignitaries, and layers. - Sports complex to be land mark and pride of the city. complex. 11 THANK YOU 12
