Project Description - You will design a one story house - Your house must include at least four rooms: - Kitchen, Living Room, Bedroom, and Bathroom - One room will be a rectangle. - One room will be a triangle or trapezoid. - One room will be a semi-circle or quarter circle. - At least two different floor materials will be used: - Carpet - Wood - Tile - Linoleum - Concrete - You have a flooring budget of $15,000 - You have to be within $750 of the budget. - You cannot exceed the budget. Considerations to Design • How many people will live in your house? This determines how many bedrooms you need. • What extra living spaces do you want? – Dining room, family room, game room, etc. • How many bathrooms do you want? – One: This is the minimum for a house. – Two: 1 for master bedroom and 1 for the rest of the house – Three: 1 for master, 1 for other bedroom, 1 for living space Bedroom Design Considerations • What size bed do you want? California King, King, Queen, Full, or Twin Bathroom Design Considerations • Do you want a bathtub or shower? • Do you want one or two sinks? Kitchen Design Considerations • Sink size: 30” to 48” wide (Single or Double) • Stove size: 30” to 48” wide • Refrigerator size: 30” to 48” wide • Cabinet size: 24” deep Floor Design Considerations • Carpet (Shag $9.25/ft² or Standard $11.75/ft²) • Hardwood (Standard $14.50/ft² or Bamboo $12.50/ft²) • Tile ($17.25/ft²) • Linoleum ($11.00/ft²) Design Process 1. Design/rough the whole house on one piece of grid paper. This is the first draft, and goes on the poster. 4. Determine the square footage of each room. 5. Make revisions to either your floor plan or material selection. 8. Revise your floor plan drawing and your budget. 9. Check your budget to see how close you are. 10. Make any revisions and draw your final floor plan. 11. Complete your final budget. This will go on the poster. 12. Color your floor plan. This will go on the poster. 13.
