City Mouse gets to the country.
“What a dusty bumpy road!” he says.
“I feel dirty, messy and muddy. May I take a bath, please?”
“Of course you may,” says Country Mouse.
城市鼠於是來到了鄉下。
城市鼠說：「這是什麼爛路，路上坑坑洞洞的，揚起來的灰塵也多！」
「我全身都髒了，衣服也亂了，還沾滿了泥巴。我可以借個浴室洗個澡嗎？
拜託！」
「當然可以囉！」鄉村鼠說。
Country Mouse shows City Mouse the bathtub.
“Hey, everybody can see me here! Don’t you have a door?”
asks City Mouse.
“We don’t use doors in the country,” says Country Mouse.
鄉村鼠於是帶著城市鼠來到了浴缸旁。
「喂，這樣一來，每個人都會看到我在洗澡！難道浴室沒有
門能讓我關上？」城市鼠問道。
「我們鄉下人都沒在關門的啦。」鄉村鼠回答。
“Excuse me, may I have the soap, please?” says a frog.
“My gosh! There’s a monster in the bathtub,” says City Mouse.
“That’s not a monster,” says Country Mouse. “That’s a frog.”
“I never saw a frog before. We don’t have frogs in the city,” says City Mouse.
「對不起，打擾了，可以請你幫我把肥皂拿來嗎？」一隻青蛙突然開口說。
「我的老天爺啊！浴缸裏有一隻怪物哇！」城市鼠大聲叫道。
「那不是怪物啦，」鄉村鼠說，「那是青蛙。」
「我以前從沒看過青蛙。我們城市裏沒有半隻青蛙。」城市鼠說。
“Are you hungry, cousin?” asks
Country Mouse.
“We have veggie soup and homemade
bread.”
City Mouse tastes the food.
“It’s not bad,” he says.
“But I like city food better.”
稍後鄉村鼠問道：「表哥，你餓了嗎？」
「我這裡有蔬菜湯和家常自製麵包。」
城市鼠嘗了嘗這些食物。
「嗯，還不賴。」他說。
「但我還是比較喜歡城市裡的食物。」
It’s late and the two mice go to bed.
“Ouch!” yells City Mouse.
“This bed is too hard. It hurts my
head, neck, back, feet and my bottom,
too!”
“I’m sorry,” says country Mouse.
“But my bed in the city is soft and
comfortable. One day you can come
and try it.”
夜深了，兩隻老鼠上床正準備睡覺。
「哎唷！」城市鼠叫道，
「這個床太硬了啦！害我的頭、脖子、
背部、腳還有屁股都好痛喔！」
鄉村鼠連忙說道：「真是抱歉。」
「我在城市裡的床可是又柔軟又舒服的
，哪天你可以來我那兒試試。」
“I really don’t like the country,” he says.
“Why don’t you come to the city with me?
We can have fun there.”
「我實在是不喜歡鄉下。」城市鼠
叨唸著。
「為什麼你不和我一起到城市呢？
我們在那裡可以過得很愉快的。」
The two mice get to the city.
“Wow, the city is so big!” says Country
Mouse.
“There are so many cars, people and
buildings here.”
於是，兩隻老鼠來到了城市。
「哇！城市真的好大喔！」鄉村鼠
驚訝地說著。
「這裡竟然有這麼多的車、這麼多
的人還有這麼多的房子。」
Country Mouse tries to cross the street.
“Move over!” shouts a bus driver.
“Look out!” yells a taxi driver.
Country Mouse runs across the street.
“Whew, in the country we don’t have so
many cars,” he says.
“And the people there are not so angry.”
接著，鄉村鼠躍躍欲試要過馬路。
「滾開！」 公車司機大叫著。
「咻，真是好險哪！在我們鄉下沒那麼
「看哪裡啊！」 計程車司機也吼道。
多車橫衝直撞的。」他抱怨著說，
於是鄉村鼠趕緊用跑的穿過了馬路。
「而且人們也不會發這麼大的脾氣。」
They come to City Mouse’s house.
“We have lots of food,” says City Mouse.
“Hamburgers, fried chicken and French fries.”
“They’re all so greasy,” says Country Mouse.
“I miss my food back home.”
終於，他們倆回到了城市鼠的家中。
城市鼠說道：「我們這，吃的可多了--漢堡、炸雞、薯條...。」
鄉村鼠回道：「那些都太油膩啦！我好懷念老家的菜色呦！」
Country Mouse tries to sleep.
“This bed is too soft and fluffy,” he says.
“I can’t sleep. I miss my bed in the country.”
“I am sorry,” says City Mouse.
“Tomorrow, there will be a big parade. We’ll have fun.”
鄉村鼠想辦法要讓自己進入夢鄉。
「這床實在是太軟太膨鬆啦，」他抱怨著說：「我睡不著呀！我會認床。」
城市鼠回道：「真不好意思呀！明兒個有一場大遊行，我們會玩得很盡興的！」
They come to the big parade.
“Wow! What’s that noise?”
shouts Country Mouse.
“It’s too loud. It hurts my ears!
Ouch!” he screams.
“Someone stepped on my tail!”
“Are you O.K., cousin?” asks
City Mouse.
“I really don’t like the city,”
says Country Mouse.
“I want to go home. I miss the
country. Goodbye, City Mouse.”
Country Mouse goes home.
於是他倆來到大遊行的行列中。
鄉村鼠嚷嚷道：「哇塞！那是什麼噪音呀？」
他放聲尖叫說：「太大聲啦！我耳朵好刺痛呀！唉呦！
有人踩到我的尾巴啦！」城市鼠關心問道：「表弟，你還好嗎？」
鄉村鼠說：「我實在不喜歡城市！我想回家了。我想念鄉下的一切。 再見
了，城市鼠！」
鄉村鼠兀自回去老家了。
“I like the country,” says Country Mouse.
“It’s good to be home.”
鄉村鼠喃喃自語道：「我還是喜歡
鄉下。回家的感覺真好！」
“I like the city,” says City Mouse.
“It’s good to be home.”
城市鼠也對自己說：「我還是喜歡都
市。回家的感覺真好！」
