Jesus Christ Wants Us to Love Everyone Primary 3: Lesson 31 Let’s take 1 minute each to share something you have done recently to show kindness to someone else. • How do you feel when you are kind to others? • How have Heavenly Father & Jesus asked us to treat others? I’m going to draw a large circle on the chalkboard like this one… What does love mean to you? I’m going to write your answers outside of the circle. Now, name people you love and I’ll write these names inside the circle. This is the Circle of Love. As we become more Christ-like, we learn to love and serve others better and include more people in our circles of love. In this lesson we will learn how Jesus Christ wants us to love everyone. Scripture Time! The scriptures teach us how we should treat other people. Let’s read John 13:34. •What does this scripture tell us to do? •LOVE ONE ANOTHER Jesus Wants Us to Love Everyone It is so important that we learn to love each other that it is repeated many times in the scriptures. Heavenly Father wants us to love every one of His children, just as He wants us to love each member of our own families. As I have loved you, Love one another. This new commandment: Love one another. By this shall men know Ye are my disciples, If ye have love One to another. Let’s make a list on the chalkboard: 1. What did Jesus do to show His love for us? 2. In what ways can we show love for others by following Jesus’ example & doing what he taught us to do? The Scriptures Help Us Know How Much We Mean to Jesus When Jesus visited the Nephites in America, they were excited and honored to be in His presence. They loved to be near Him and hear His teachings. Let’s read the story when Christ blessed the Nephite children. After much destruction in the land, many Nephites gathered at the temple in Bountiful. While they were talking, they heard a quiet voice from heaven. It made their hearts burn. The voice they heard was Heavenly Father’s. It introduced Jesus Christ and told the people to listen to Him. Jesus Christ came down from heaven and stood among the people. They were afraid to speak because they did not understand what was happening. They thought Jesus was an angel. He told them he was Jesus Christ, the one the prophets had said would come. Jesus Christ told the Nephites to bring their little children to him. The children sat on the ground near Jesus. The Savior told the people to kneel down. Then He knelt and prayed to Heavenly Father. After His prayer, Jesus said the Nephites would be blessed because of their faith. He felt so much love and happiness that He wept. Then He took the children and blessed each one. He prayed to Heavenly Father for them and wept again. Jesus told the Nephites to look at their children. As the people watched, angels came down from heaven and encircled the children. The children and the angels were surrounded by fire. •How do you think the little girl in this picture felt? •If you were in the group of children with Jesus, how would you feel if Jesus placed His hands on your head? I think when I read that sweet story of old, When Jesus was here among men, How He called little children like lambs to His fold I should like to have been with Him then. I wish that His hands had been placed on my head, That His arms had been thrown around me, That I might have seen His kind look when He said, “Let the little ones come unto me.” We Can Help Others Feel Their Worth to Heavenly Father & Jesus Listen to the following story to see how Lenny helped Mark feel loved. See lesson manual for the story We Can Help Others Feel Their Worth to Heavenly Father & Jesus Listen to the following story to see how Karen helped Eileen feel loved. See lesson manual for the story Do any of you have an experience you can share when you have been included in someone’s circle of love, or when you have included someone else in your circle of love? I need 4 volunteers to tell / act out what they would do in the following scenarios. Volunteer # 1. You are building a birdhouse in your back yard with your friends. Your little brother comes up and asks if he can help. What could you do to make your brother feel good about himself? How would you feel if you were the little brother and your big brother let you help? Volunteer # 2. Your Primary class is planning a service project. Everyone is giving his / her ideas except Heather. She is shy & doesn’t say much. Suddenly Heather starts to speak, but she is interrupted by someone else and stops talking. What could you do to show that you care about Heather & want to make her feel important? How would you feel if you were Heather & someone showed you that they cared? Volunteer #3. You are playing outside at school, and you see some children telling another child not to play in their game. They are mean to that child. What would you do to show that child that he / she is important? How would you feel if someone asked you to play when the other children hadn’t let you play? Volunteer #4. There is a new boy in your Primary class, and some of the boys are teasing him because he acts differently than other members of the class. What would you do to make the new boy feel accepted? How would you feel if you were new at church and someone took the time to talk to you and make you feel welcome? I want you to know that Heavenly Father & Jesus love each one of us; they want us to love & help others, too. Each of us is included in Heavenly Father’s circle of love. • Images and clipart are from lds.org, sugardoodle.net, Microsoft Office, and other websites indicating the images were in the public domain.
