Remove nail polish from the nails of both hands. Manicure 2. File the nails of the hands (buffing can be done at this stage without buffing paste). Manicure 3. Apply cuticle massage cream. Manicure 4. Soak the left hand in a bowl of soapy water then repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 on the right hand. Manicure 5. Treat the cuticles on the left hand by applying cuticle remover and pushing back the cuticle using a cotton wool tipped orange stick or a hoof stick. Manicure 6. Remove excess cuticle using the cuticle knife and cuticle nippers. Manicure 7. Use a nail brush to rinse of cuticle remover and any loose cuticle. Dry thoroughly and then repeat steps 5–7 on the right hand. Manicure 8. Massage both hands. Manicure 9. Remove grease from the nail place on each hand using cotton wool and polish remover. Manicure 10. Apply nail polish. Base coat (once), coloured nail polish (twice) and top coat (once). If the client does not want nail polish, buff to a shine. Pretissage (thumb kneading) to the forearm (wrist to elbow) three times. Massage 4. Thumb knead the top of wrist (carpels). Massage 5. Criss-cross thumb movements (friction) to the underside of the wrist. Massage 6. Rotate the wrist three times in each direction. Massage 7. Flex the wrist 2–3 times. Massage 8. Thumb knead the back of the hand. Massage 9. Thumb knead the palm. Massage 10. Thumb knead the joints of the fingers. Massage 11. Rotate the fingers three times in each direction. Massage 12. Finger ‘snapping’. Massage 13. Effleurage to finish. The wax must be heated in the wax bath for at least 30 minutes before you need to use it. Plan ahead to ensure the wax is melted properly and ready for use. Paraffin wax treatment 2. Completed the manicure up to a brief hand massage. Apply a rich massage cream and gently massage into the area. Paraffin wax treatment 3. Check the consistency of the wax and test the temperature by applying to the inside of your wrist. Paraffin wax treatment 4. Dispense the heated wax into a small bowl and quickly brush the wax onto the client’s hands using a small paintbrush. Paraffin wax treatment 5. Wrap the hand in a plastic bag. Tin foil can also be used. Paraffin wax treatment 6. Cover with a towel or thermal mitts. The wax can be left on for up to 20 minutes but 10 minutes is adequate. Paraffin wax treatment 7. Remove the wax . It should peel off in one piece and be disposed of. Paraffin wax treatment 8. A full massage of 10 minutes should now be given to ensure the client receives the full benefit of the treatment. Paraffin wax treatment 9. Continue with the application of polish, taking extra care when wiping over the nails with polish remover to ensure there are no traces of wax left on the nails, which will prevent the polish adhering to the nail.
