Mount Sybil
Mount Sybil is a massif (2,173 m) of the Sibillini
chain. It takes its name from the Apennine Sybil,
a mythical inhabitant of the homonymous cave
which has given life to an atmosphere of mystery
and legend for centuries
The cave of the Sybil.
- The cave of the Sybil,
also called the Cave of the
Fairies, is a cave cut into
the rock and reached only
on foot.
- The cave takes its name
from the legend of the
Apennine Sybil, according
to which it was the access
point to Queen Sybil’s
underground kingdom.
- Now, however, the entry
has collapsed and can be
seen only from the
outside.
