Procedure
Work on scrap paper to develop your idea. Focus on
composition using the entire sheet of paper. You will
find big and bold, bright and colorful designs work best.
Some good ideas for subject matter include architecture,
shapes, animals, fish, birds and flowers.
Transfer your rough draft to 12x18 paper and outline
with chalk so you know you can get a feel for what will
be black.
Work in Progress
Berett Wilber
Apply thick even color with the crayons. Where you would like a black
line to separate areas of color, leave the paper white. ( if you need
large areas of black or white, you need to apply crayon)

Coloring complete? Take your drawing to the
sink, run it under cold water, crumple it up and
straighten it out on a drawing board.
Apply a coat of black tempera with a wide
brush—rinse your brush.
GENTLY begin wiping off the paint
Finishing
Once you have wiped the black tempera off, find a
spot to let your batik dry on the board.
Then, take your batik off the board and apply a thin
coat of gloss medium.
After that, let your batik dry and then it is ready to be
turned in.
