Summary of the lesson

The lesson deals with
human relationships.
Jumman’s aunt
transfers her property
to him on the
condition that he will
look after her. He illtreats her and she
seeks justice in the
village panchayat.
Important points of the story
Aunty transfers her property to Jumman.
He looks after her well for sometime.
Situation changes. Aunt unable to take
insults, asks for allowance to set up a
separate kitchen.
Jumman refuses. Aunt seeks the help of
the panchayat.

Algu Chowdry, Jumman’s best friend
is nominated Panch to decide the
case.
Algu after great deliberation comes to
the conclusion that either Jumman
must give the aunt an allowance or
return the property.
Jumman angry at the decision stops
talking to Algu.

Algu Chowdry is in a fix, as Samju
Sahu who had bought a pair of
bullocks from Algu , refused to pay as
one of the bullocks had died.
Algu is forced to go to Panch.
Sahu nominates Jumman as the
Panch.
Algu was unhappy over the choice,
afraid he will lose the case.

take revenge and gives a fair
and impartial judgment.
Algu is moved deeply and
declares “Victory to the
panchayat. This is justice .
God lives in the voice of the
Panch.”
