March 5, 2014 APUSH: World War I Socratic Seminar Essential Question: Was the United States justified in entering World War I? What are viable alternatives to war? SWBAT… discuss the causes of World War I and the changes experienced in the United States as a result Warm-Up: Look at the document provided. As you read, annotate the document and then answer the questions below. Be prepared to share. HW: Test Corrections (1/2 credit), Storyboard- 4 major events leading up to World War I (http://www.thomhalls.com/storyboard_form.pdf) APUSH: World War I Socratic Seminar You will be divided into 2 groups. Each group is assigned a leader and every other student will be assigned a partner. 1. In your groups, choose a partner (except for the leader). You will track this person’s comments throughout the discussion. 2. Review your notes on World War I. You will have three minutes to do this. 3. The group leader will introduce a question. The group will have three minutes to discuss each question. To receive a 75 on this assignment, you must participate 5 times. 4. At the end of the discussion, you will complete your grading sheet, personal reflection and write a one paragraph summary of the discussion (on LL). APUSH: World War I Socratic Seminar The leader will be responsible for: 1. Keeping you on track to finish all of the questions (approximately 3 minutes per questions). 2. Keeping track of who raises his/her hand to participate. The leader will call on the next person that appears on the list (make sure to write down your comment or question). You are responsible for: 1. Being polite! Wait your turn, stay on topic, provide evidence and support. 2. Tracking your partner. 3. Remaining engaged in the conversation.
