Paradigms & Principles
Paradigm
Principle
The way we think about and
see things; a mental map
A fundamental truth that is
timeless
Can be positive or negative
Doesn’t fail
Make a big difference in
how our life goes
Stable and never changing
Will win in the end!
How do we see ourselves,
others and life?
Paradigms of Self – how we see ourselves (can be
helping or hindering you)
Paradigms of Others – how we view others (we
don’t’ usually have the whole story)
Paradigms of Life – how we look at life (specifically
what drives us, what is important to us, etc)
Paradigms of Life
Possible Centers or Paradigms of Life:
Friend Centered – friends are important but should
never be the center
Stuff Centered – “He who dies with the most toys,
wins”
Boyfriend/Girlfriend Centered – the world revolves
around them
School Centered – should be important but not the
only thing
Paradigms of Life, Cont.
Parent/Family Centered – should respect and honor
them, but living to please them could end in disaster
Other Possible Centers –
Sports/Hobbies
Hero
Work
Self
You get the idea
You Ask, “What Should
We Be Centered On…”

What is Personal Bank
Account (PBA)?
It is the way you feel and think about yourself.
It has deposits and withdrawals (just like the bank).
Possible Symptoms of a
Poor PBA
Possible Symptoms of a
Healthy PBA
You cave into peer pressure
easily.
You stand up for yourself
and resist peer pressure.
You wrestle with feelings of
inferiority.
You’re not overly concerned
about being popular.
You act arrogant to help
hide insecurities.
You trust yourself.
You get jealous easily,
especially when someone
close to you succeeds.
You are goal driven.
You are happy for the
successes of others.
Deposits Into PBA:
Keep Promises to Yourself
For 3 days in a row, get up in the morning when you
say you will get up.
Identify one easy task (do dishes). Decide when to do
it and now keep your word and get it done.
Do Random Acts of Service
Sometime today – do a kind anonymous deed
Look around and find something you can do to make a
difference.
