What makes you mad?
Sometimes it’s good to be angry
This chapter gives us a rare glimpse into the very real
humanity of Jesus
Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to
sympathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been
tempted in every way, just as we are— yet was without sin.”
Luke 19: 28-48

Something significant was about to take place
Luke 19:11 “…because he was near Jerusalem and the people
thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.”
Revelation 13:8b “…the Lamb that was slain from the creation of
the world.”
Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey
Luke 19: 28-48

Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout,
Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and
having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal
of a donkey.”
Malachi 3:1 “See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the
way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come
to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire,
will come, says the LORD Almighty.”
Jesus was forcing the authorities hand

vs.38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
They wanted Jesus and their King on their terms
Romans 9:20-21 But who are you, my friend, to talk back to God?
A clay pot does not ask the man who made it, "Why did you make
me like this?" After all, the man who makes the pots has the right
to use the clay as he wishes, and to make two pots from the same
lump of clay, one for special occasions and the other for ordinary
use. (GNB)

“A faith that can’t be shaken is a faith that has been shaken.”
~ Randy Alcorn
“God is able to do what He pleases, with whomever he pleases,
whenever He wishes.“

vs.41 “As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept
over it.”
Why did Jesus weep?
John 1:11 “He came to that which was his own, but his own did
not receive him.”
Unbelief and rejection breaks God’s heart, because He
knows the consequences
Luke 19: 28-48

Revelations 3:20 “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If
anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…”
God will not violate our free will, even if that choice is
wrong
vs.45-47 Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those
who were selling. It is written, he said to them, 'My house will be a house
of prayer'; but you have made it 'a den of robbers'. Every day he was
teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and
the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. Yet they could not
find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.
Luke 19: 28-48

Righteous indignation
Mark 11:15 “On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple area
and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He
overturned the tables of the money-changers and the benches of
those selling doves.”
John 19:5 “Behold, the Man!”
Jesus was clearly provoking the situation
Luke 19: 28-48

Isaiah 56:6-7 “I will also bless the Gentiles who commit
themselves to the LORD, who serve him and love his name, who
worship him and do not desecrate the Sabbath… I will accept their
burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my Temple will be called a
house of prayer for all nations. (NLT)
Instead of praying for the people, they were preying on
the people
Luke 19: 28-48

What makes God angry?
Getting in the way of others experiencing God
The Church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for
saints
Are you are bridge or a barrier to people knowing God?
Luke 19: 28-48

This was the second time that Jesus cleansed the Temple
1 John 1:8 “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and
the truth is not in us.”
James 4:17 “…to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to
him it is sin.”
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
