Grab a computer and let’s compare an LEDC to
an MEDC development using the HDI
• Log onto the following 3 web sites below:
1. HDI web site: http://hdr.undp.org/en/
2. HDI
Calculator http://hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/data/cal
culator/
3. CIAfactbook:
www.ciafactbook.gov
With the first web site look and see how we use the
HDI and their categories, then use the second web
site to play with data found on countries of your
choice, so you understand the calculations.
Now that you have played with this a few times
here is some data (you will need the CIA
factbook to get LEDC data)

Afghanistan or the Philippines is a more developed country? Show your workings.
With the stats found and the total explain with
example what has INFLUENCED the changes in
Development?

See if you can improve on your last
answer on Iraq with the Afghanistan
Development!!!
What are your findings?
In a short paragraph describe world Development trends of your two
countries.
To describe the graphs do 3 things:
1. Describe the general trend of the information found and
support by quoting data from any findings
2. Acknowledge exceptions (sometimes called anomalies) to the
general trend and support with data from any findings
3. The third thing is to support your descriptions with data from
any findings
Rank em up!



To know how developed a country is we
use development indicators.
An example of a development indicator is..
Question 1 (poor) 4 (good)
