• Afrikaners or white setters had controlled
this area like the social structures known
as apartheid.
• This time in Africa it was controlled by
Europe through imperialism.
• At this time Africa was segregated and
blacks were treated unequally.
• The racist Africa had ended after about
mid 1990s.
Rise to Power
•
He became the president of South Africa
in 1990 until 1994.
• He rose to power with a combination of jobs
and characteristics he was involved in with
such as being a lawyer, his leadership roles
and traits, and joining the ANC ( African
National Congress).
• He rose to power with the help of those
who followed him and were willing to brake
the law.
• These groups also followed Gandhi's civil
disobedience and non violent protests.
Rise to Power Continued
• He came to power right after he got out of
prison for about 27 years.
• He got to power so easily because the
people didn’t like what was going on with
the unequal rights and segregation.
Beliefs
• Mandela believed in the rights of his fellow
people and how they should be treated
equally in their country and their home
land.
• Though they were being pushed around
by the white people because they were
using Africa for its resources.
• He also believed in Gandhi’s beliefs in
civil disobedience( not follow things in
just).
Impact on Nation
• Mandela had certainly made an impact on
his nation. If didn’t come to power, then
South Africa would still be segregated or
going through racial issues today.
• He also brought back the rights of the
people in South Africa.
• He got removed the apartheid( the legal
separation of blacks and whites) from
Africa.
Impact on the World
• As an impact to the world he had brought
awareness to many people about human
rights which has changed some countries
due to what was happening to South
Africa.
