NC 73 Small Project Scoping
Process Update
June 24, 2014
Problem
•
•
•
Background
No sections of NC 73 are scheduled for widening before 2025 (pre-STI)
New NCDOT project ranking and funding formula focuses on statewide-tier corridors
Continued congestion and safety issues at specific sections of corridor
Strategy
•
•
Take advantage of locally-controlled construction funds (CMAQ, STP-DA, Division, and local
governments)
Joint NCDOT/MPO/local government project identification and scoping process for small
(0-$5 million) projects
Next Steps
•
•
•
•
Complete evaluation of all intersections
Develop cost estimates and eligible funding sources
Confirm project sponsors
Monitor project solicitation schedules
Participants
•
•
•
•
Linda Dosse, David Keilson, Scott Cole, and Mike Reese (NCDOT)
Justin Carroll and Bill Coxe (Huntersville)
Andrew Bryant (Lincoln County)
Hank Graham (GCLMPO)
Growth has been uneven over past decade
