Theme:
The movie Kinsey depicts the life long work of Albert Kinsey. It begins with the relationship with his family and progresses to him going against his father’s will to become a biologist.
Which is where he met his wife, and later down the path found himself interested in sex research.
The movie portrays his life struggles when he changed his career, devoting it to the study of sexual behavior.
From a major, popular hit, to a man who had little to his name, and even his name had been drug through the mud.
Personal Opinion:
As someone who is becoming more open minded and educated in the way of sexuality, I was taken back by this movie, to see how the education all formed together and the hardship he had to go through to continue his research. I can only find myself hoping that he received enough recognition for the work he put into finding out about sexuality and that so many “odd” things are normal because the appreciation I felt was immense throughout the movie. I have spent two decades with self doubt and being uncomfortable with sexual desires , this class helped me reevaluate my whole life, and this movie helped me see how it started.
Theme:
The theme of Juno is to show the hardships of a teen with an unexpected pregnancy. It is a movie that gives an inside perspective of a oddball teenage girl, who isn’t ready, to make some of the biggest decisions of her life. The confession to her parents and their reactions was also something that was gone over, which is a must in a teen pregnancy movie.
This movie also goes over a marriage breakup (of the adopters), as well, which to me was a display that a single mother can just as well be there for her child, as she was so devoted to having a child of her own.
In the end, Juno is satisfied with her decision.
Personal Opinion:
Overall I do like Juno, it does have a sort of young/teen movie feel to it, which I suppose is the target audience anyway. I think that the character Juno can really relate to many girls who feel like they are out of place, and want to express themselves the way Juno does. Also, seeing her perspective on how she handles her whole situation is something that I’m sure many girls saw differently, because many of our interpretations of teen pregnancy is kept at a more serious and (almost)
“proper” sense, since it is a subject that adults want kids to always take seriously. I think this movie is beneficial for
Theme:
This movie follows the story of two girls who travel to Barcelona together. After an impulsive decision to travel with a stranger they both fall in love with a man.
This mutual love displays the torment that each go through while wanting to experiment but feeling like they can’t because they are reevaluating their morals and life choices. They struggle with finding themselves in an environment that was unfamiliar to them, but comforting. In the end, they were in the same places they started, having learned a little about themselves, yet not progressing in their happiness.
Personal Opinion:
I honestly really dislike the whole outcome and choices of the movie. The storyline was fine, and the character development was well done as well, but
I didn’t find the choices they made and the path that the movie took to be very realistic or satisfying. With Vicky not following what she really wanted to doand when she finally did she got shot… it seemed a little far fetched. I think if, in the end, at least one of the girls achieved something in gaining something from the experience, the movie would have had a stronger impact.
