Or Little Nuggets of Wisdom on How to Live
EMERSON’S MAXIMS
To believe your own thought, to that what
is true for you in your private heart is true
for all men- that is genius.
What I must do is all that concerns me, not
what the people think.
Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of
your own mind. Absolve you to yourself,
and you shall have the suffrage of the
world.
No law can be sacred to me but that of my
very nature…the only right is what is after
my constitution; the only wrong what is
against it.
It is easy to live in solitude to live life after
our own; but the great man is he who in the
midst of the crowd keeps with perfect
sweetness the independence of solitude.
A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of
little minds…with consistency, a great soul
simply has nothing to do.
To be great is to be misunderstood.
