TURTLE IN
PARADISE

Summary
• This book is not really about turtles .It is about a group of kids ,that go play
together called The Diaper Gang . They go around changing the baby's diaper
put them in a blanket and rap thunder up in the blanket really teat and that make
them fall asleep really fast so they stop crying and then they drop the baby off
with there mom’s .
Setting
• This story takes place in Key West in Florida in the 1930.
• Turtle a little girl, and main character of the story and go's to live with some
relatives
CHARTERS
• The main characters are:
• Turtle is a 11 year old girl
• Turtle’s mom and Archie, her boyfriend
• The people in the The Diaper Gang are Beans ,Kermit, Buddy, Pork
chop.
• Aunt Minnie, who Turtle went to live with in Key West
• Turtle’s grandmother, Nana Philly
• Smokey is Turtle’s cat
Problem
• Everyone is poor; it is the depression.
• The Diaper Gang gets paid with candy because the
people don’t have money to pay them
• Turtle’s mom takes a job with a family that doesn’t like
kids and this is why Turtle has to move with Aunt Minnie
Events
• Turtle is meeting her mom’s family for the first time.
• Turtle is moving to Key West to live with her aunt and

Aunt Minnie had no idea that Turtle was coming for the
visit because Turtle’s mom didn’t let her know.
Turtle is upset that she is away for her mom and Archie.
Rascal boys form the Diaper Gang, a side business to
relieve mothers of their crying babies.
The Diaper Gang takes the babies around the
neighborhood in a wagon to make them fall asleep and
stop crying.
The gang works for candy and has a strict “no girls
allowed” policy.
Events Continued
• Turtle finds an adventure in a possible lost treasure and
hopes of lots of money to live an easy life for her and her
mom.
Quote:
• Kids lie. We have to or we’d never get anything. But
grown ups lie, too – they just do it differently. They leave
things out; they don’t give you the whole story.
