TG20:13 update September 2014 Introduction • The NASC is continuing to improve TG20:13, the comprehensive guide to good practice for tube and fitting scaffolding • The first update to TG20, TG20:13 Supplement 1, launched in September 2014 • It is accompanied by an update to the TG20:13 eGuide, version 1.1, now available for download from the NASC website What’s new? • A specification for TG20:13 compliant cold-formed high tensile steel tubes in TG20:13 Supplement 1 • TG20 compliance sheets for coldformed high tensile steel tubes in the new TG20 eGuide • TG20 compliance sheets for sheeted scaffolds with transom units • Several minor enhancements to TG20 compliance sheets High tensile tubes • TG20:13 provides a definition for TG20 compliant 3.2mm wall thickness hightensile steel tubes to BS EN 10210-1 • These tubes are manufactured by a hotrolling process and offer performance comparable to type 4 steel tubes • However, many 3.2mm high-tensile tubes used in the UK scaffolding industry are manufactured with a cold-formed process • Although these tubes have a higher bending capacity than type 4 steel tubes, they did not comply with TG20:13 because they have a lower axial load capacity due to their reduced thickness High tensile tubes • TG20:13 has now been extended to support these tubes • The required tube specification is defined in TG20:13 Supplement 1 • New TG20 compliance sheets are available for tubes of this specification from the new TG20 eGuide High tensile tubes • TG20 compliance sheets for cold-formed high-tensile steel tubes are printed from the new version of the TG20:13 eGuide with this new option: Transom units • TG20 compliance sheets are now available for sheeted scaffolds constructed with TG20 compliant prefabricated structural transom units • Compliance sheets are available for tied independent scaffolds and tied towers • Printed from the new TG20 eGuide • Guidance is provided in TG20:13 Supplement 1 Compliance sheet enhancements • Some minor enhancements have been made to the TG20 compliance sheets from the new eGuide based on feedback • A new note that ‘illustrations are indicative’ – the compliance sheet illustrations are not dimensioned design drawings • Specific compliance sheets for scaffolds which are 2.0m, 3.0m or 4.0m tall • Minor clarifications to the wording for scaffolds tied to the inner face only Compatibility • The NASC recommends that the latest TG20 compliance sheets from the new eGuide are always used • However, this update to TG20 has been designed such that compliance sheets from the original eGuide (and from the TG20:13 Operational Guide) are still valid • There is no need to differentiate between new and original compliance sheets on site Software download • Version 1.1 of the TG20:13 eGuide is available as a free software update • Available for Windows, Mac and Android devices • Download from the NASC website • TG20:13 Supplement 1 is available for download as a PDF http://www.nasc.org.uk/tg20_13/tg20_13_supplement_1_and_eguide_update Thank you Questions?
