Why are enzymes important to our bodies?
Objectives:
1. Students will be able to identify factors that affect the speed of chemical reactions
2. Students will be able to predict how changing one of these factors will affect the speed of a chemical reaction.
3. Students will be able to use a logical problem solving process (the scientific method) to solve a real-life problem.

Why are enzymes important to our bodies?
• All of these children have genetic disorders involving defective enzymes.
• Since enzymes cause chemical reactions in our bodies to happen at a faster rate than they would normally happen (they are called biological catalysts), if your body’s enzymes aren’t working properly, then your body doesn’t work properly.

Factors that affect chemical reactions also affect the enzymes that catalyze reactions in our bodies:
Why/How does it affect enzyme reaction rate?
Enzymes in our bodies catalyze (speed up) reactions in two ways:
1.
2.
