Life of Plants Akar khoschnau People know that the most basic things needed for a seed to germinate and become a sprout is sunlight, oxygen, water, and nutrients. These are all key things that a plant needs for the rest of the duration it is alive for. Plants have a primary root, in which lateral roots are attached. The roots attach themselves and spread out. Root hairs attached to the roots absorb water, energy and other things from the soil. The two main tubes located in the plants are, the Xylem and the Phloem tube. The Phloem transports all the food, energy and starches all around the plant. What the Xylem does is it transports water through out the cells. From the stem/xylem tubes, water travels to the veins of the plant. By the time water has reached the veins, some of it has evaporated because of Transpiration, even though plants have a Waxy Cuticle top layer to help prevent water from escaping, and also spongy cells, it still get through by the stomata under the leaf. Photosynthesis All these things are needed for photosynthesis: 1) Sunlight: Which comes from the sun 2)Chlorophyl: The green substance which is found in the chloroplasts. Which makes leaves look green. 3)Carbon dioxide: Carbon dioxide which enters the leaf. 4) Water: Which comes from the soil that is absorbed by the roots and then goes up the stem and then to the leafs. photosynthesis can take place, thanks to the Xylem tube. The equation for photosynthesis is Carbon dioxide + water -> (sunlight from chlorophyll) results in glucose + oxygen. Final step: Once the leaves have absorbed the energy from the sun, it combines water and the carbon dioxide to make its food, which is glucose. Then, the glucose is transformed into starch, and is taken back down the Phloem tube to the rest of the plant.
