Washings Machines By: Brittiany King THE INVENTION OF: Introduction: A washing machine is a device that it used to separate dirt from clothes. Washing machines come in all different sizes , colors. They also have different brands of washing machines too. Washing machines go all the way back t the 1600’s and are continued to be made at this exact moment. Washing machines did not start of with automatically wash and front door openers that we have today, they started off very simple and hard. Well, this is how the creation of the washing machine all begin. Question #3 : Why did people create the washing machine? I think people created the washing machine because people needed a way to separate the dirt away from their clothes without just using their hands. Although, from the washing machines in early time you still needed your hand to turn the handle in order to wash your clothes. It was much more convenient than just using your bare hands to wash every single piece of clothing you own. Question #1 : What is a part or inside the washing machine that helps with cleaning clothes? Inside a washing machine there are many parts that help remove dirt from clothes. A washing machine consist of: - Air dove seal Center post gasket Outer tub seal Pump Hose connections Those 5 things work together in order to remove dirt & stains from your clothes. Creations from the 1600’s The first English patent under the category of washing and wringing machines was issued in 1691. Creations from the1700’s The first drawing of a washing machine appeared in January 1752 issues of “The Gentlemen’s Magazine” . n 1782 Henry Sidgier was issued a British patent for a rotating drum washer. The first drum washing machine was invented in 1797 by James King. The first United States Patent titled "Clothes Washing" was granted to Nathaniel Briggs of New Hampshire in 1797. Creations from the 1800’s In 1851 the drum made King’s machine resemble a modern machine however it still was hand powered. The first rotary washing machine was patented in 1858 by Hamilton Smith. In 1874 William Blackstone built his wife a machine that removed and washed away dirt from clothes. Creations from the 1900’s Whirlpool washing machines came in 1911. Electronic washing machines were advised and discussed in the newspaper as early as 1904. By the 1940’s , 60% of the 25,000 homes in the united states had washing machines. The first fully auto washing machine was introduced at a state fair in Louisiana in 1937. The washing machines were not safe because water often spilt over the side and into the motor or switch. Some washing machines were called wringers around that time because if you didn't use tem carefully you could cut your fingers off. The first Laundromat opened in Fort-worth Texas in 1934. Washing machines have changed over time because when they first started washing machines were made of steel and had heavy, dirty, lids. Some of them were made of wooden tubes. Also, with some of them you had to turn them with your hands and they were really, really heavy. As of today, washing machines work with the press of a button and they have clear front doors so that you can actually sit and watch your clothes wash. But, your washer would not be complete if you do not have a dryer. ! Question #4 : How does it help people today? Washing machines help people today because it would be no point in going somewhere if you do not have clean clothes. Some people would just buy new clothes every time but after a while you do not want piles and piles of dirty clothes.
