What is SafeAssign?
• We will be using software called SafeAssign for this class.
• SafeAssign is a service that detects similarities between papers
that you submit as assignments in this course, and papers in the
SafeAssign database.
• A submission is compared to:
–
–
–
–
Index of internet documents
Proquest Database
A local (UMB) database of previously submitted papers
A Global Reference Database of all papers submitted to the
SafeAssign service (This is an opt‐in only feature)

Why are we using SafeAssign?
• The intention of this tool is to protect original work.
• It will help you learn to cite sources properly.
• SafeAssign is an intellectual property checker. Much like a spell
checker checks for spelling errors, this tool checks for original
phrasing and ideas.

SafeAssignment Reports
• Each time you submit an assignment you will have the ability to
view a SafeAssign Originality Report.
• The report will show you how much of your document matches
other online sources.
• You will have the opportunity to view these reports and resubmit your assignments for the assignment when the
SafeAssignment is set up in Draft mode.
• Each time a new document is submitted the previous document
and SafeAssign report is overwritten.
• Once the due date has passed I will set up a new
SafeAssignment in Final mode.
