The two are integrally aligned. TEA 3 TELPAS provides proficiency level ratings for each language domain, plus an overall composite rating. TEA 4 TELPAS Reading - Online Students will Take the TELPAS Reading test March 18-20. Please plan your lessons knowing that some of your students will be out for state testing. TELPAS Writing Goal in Assembling Writing Collections To make sure the collections portray the students’ overall English language writing proficiency TEA 7 Writing Activities TELPAS writing samples should be taken from authentic classroom activities grounded in • content area TEKS • ELPS TEA 8 Samples Required At least 5 total samples are required in each collection. In each collection there must be - at least 1 narrative about a past event - at least 2 writing samples from math, science, or social studies TEA 9 Some Eligible Types of Writing Descriptive writing on a familiar topic Writing about a familiar process Narrative writing about a past event Personal narratives and reflective pieces Expository and other extended writing from language arts classes Expository or procedural writing from science, math, and social studies classes TEA 10 Papers Not to Include Papers containing copied language Papers in which student relies heavily on resources (dictionary, thesaurus, etc.) Papers showing teacher comments and corrections Worksheets and question-answer assignments Papers that have been polished with help from peers or teachers Papers written primarily in student’s native language Papers that are brief, incomplete, or rushed TEA 11 New Caney HS - TELPAS All teachers with ELL students in their class will give a writing assignment • It must be a class assignment • The writing must be based on what is being taught in class • The teacher will turn in only the ELL papers to Tami Burson (ELL Specialist) TELPAS Timeline – February 17 Due dates: • Math – Feb. 23rd • CTE/Fine Arts/Foreign Language/SPED – Feb. 25th • Science – Feb. 27th • Social Studies –March 3rd • ELA – March 6th (Two Samples) TELPAS Writing Prompts Prompts must be focused on what is being taught in class Look at the list on the back of the handout to give you ideas If you are unsure check with Tami Burson TELPAS Prompt Ideas https://visualwritingprompts.wordpress.co m/category/subjects/science/ On the right-hand side of the visual prompts are more subjects.
