The History of Walk Georgia
• Walk Georgia began in 2008 as Extension’s first banner program
• 50,000 participants have been involved in Walk Georgia
• Logged over 4 million miles worth of physical activity!
• A grant from The Coca-Cola Foundation in 2013 facilitated the
expansion of Walk Georgia
• Our goal and commitment to Coca-Cola is to reach 100,000 people
• Walk Georgia has become one of the most visible outreach programs
of UGA’s Obesity Initiative
What makes Walk Georgia unique?
• Not only is Walk Georgia a free program, it offers your
office, your schools, your businesses, your county/city
governments LOCAL information about how to stay
healthy.
• Walk Georgia is unique because with your help we
know what parks are near you, how cold it is outside
and that your recipes will require GA GROWN peaches
and blueberries in May/June…

Support
The NEW Walk Georgia is DYNAMIC because of two things:
• Constructive critiques
• Questions
We EXPECT you to send your questions to us, and to
provide constructive criticism, without it this program would
have never been able to develop.
The Walk Georgia Home Team exists to make this program’s
foundation strong and to provide support for all of you.
YOUR support is essential for this program to grow.
OUR support is essential to empower you for local adoption.
What this means
We expect you to implement WALK GEORGIA into your
community because we, the Walk Georgia Team, are committed
to providing SUPPORT and EMPOWERMENT.
As Extension Staff, YOU own this program.
We are here to help you fit it into your community. We have tried
to make it simple to use and embedded rich content full of your
claim to fame – expert advice - so that you can fulfill your MAIN
goal as Extension staff: improving the lives of Georgians.
There are few better (or easier) ways to do that than to embrace
this tailor-made program for your community.
Let’s do THIS!
As you saw in my first slide, structure is important. We
cannot be effective without ORGANIZATION & SUPPORT.
Please direct all questions about the website and
implementation to walkga@uga.edu or give me a call at 706542-4649.
Finally, as we go through this presentation, please type your
questions into the chat box or jot ALL questions down. At the
end we will offer a Q&A or you can simply send the questions
to walkga@uga.edu and expect a prompt answer.
