was born in AKASZTO, Hungary on the 20th November 1941. I made my elementary school at
Ménf6csanak and Kisbaràt and I started the middle school at the Bencés Gimnàzium, Gy6r in 1956. tn
I
November 1956 I left Hungary with my elder brother Ottò and shortly later we arrived at Belgium as
political refugees. I made the middle school and high school at Liège, Collège Saint Barthélemy from 1957
to 196L. ln 1961 I started the University studies at Louvain(Leuven) and I got the diploma in Chemistry in
1965. During my university studies I got a scholarship from UNO for political refugees. During the phD
studies I was a teaching assistant at the Catholic University of Louvain. I got my phD degree in i-970 with
the mension "summa cum laude". One year of post-doc at State University of New York at Stony Brook,
Long lsland in the laboratory of Prof. E. Kosower who later emigrated to Tel Aviv, lsrael. Back to Louvain,
continued my research assistantship and I moved to Namur University in!974, where I became a research
assistant. Later on I was nominated professor and finally full professor at Namur University. My teaching
was in general chemistry course and organic chemistry course for medical students, physical chemistry for
physics students, nuclear magnetic resonance for third and fourth year students in chemistry, colloid
chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis for fourth year students in chemistry. I also gave specialized courses
for PhD students in heterogeneous catalysis, in nuclear magnetic resonance and electron paramagnetic
resonance for PhD students in biology, physics and chemistry. I have retired from Namur University as
I
emeritus professor. I have published some 600 papers in various internationalscientific reviews and
congress proceedings, lgave plenary lectures and oralcommunications in numerous international
meetings. The main research fields are: Solution chemistry - Heterogeneous catalysis High Resolution
solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance - Organic and inorganic nanoparticles - Fullerenes and carbon
nanotubes. ln the latter field various patents on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes led to the foundation of
a company in Belgium, called NANOCYL, at Sambreville, that produces and sells carbon nanotubes in the
whole world. ln 1992 we founded the Committee for Human Rights in Central Europe where we are very
active to help various communities which live in minority without having all civil rights, i.e. Hungarians in
Slovakia, Ukraine, Rumania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria. We were and we are in close contact with
various organizations of these countries, with Hungarian organizations in Hungary and our essential task is
the information of the western institutions, European Parliament, European Council and the European
politicians.
Distinctions: Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; Honorary member of the Hungarian Academy
of Engineers; Doctor Honoris Causa of the Szeged University; Grand Officer of the Order of Leopold ll; price
of the "Citizen of the year of Namur" in 2OO2; Price of the "Walloon of the year 2004" .This price was
justified on the basis of the foundation of Nanocyl company and the activities in the field of Human Rights;
Honorary citizen of my native village AKASZTO; Member of the Group of University Professors of Hungarian
origin founded by the former Hungarian Ambassador in Brussels, Làszlo Tròcsànyi. presently we try to
answer at the attacks against Hungarian government and Hungary; Member of the Rotary lnternational.
