When did the concept of sustainable development originate and what is its meaning
today? The seminar will try to answer this important question by tracing the history
of the concept from its genesis to the present day. Sustainable development is an idea
that conflates two ambiguous and problematic terms: development and sustainability.
During the seminar we will therefore attempt to unpack each of these terms, in order
to gain a deeper and more critical understanding of the idea.
