Malta
Malta is a small island in the Mediterranean sea, the capital is Valetta,
the official language is English, the area is 300 sq. km. The population is
500 000.
The diving is the most popular sport activity on the island, tourist industry
is very important to the economy. Malta is very well fortified because for
many years it was the stronghold of the Order of the Maltese Knights.
Warm sea attracts lots of tourists and that contributes greatly to the
country’s prosperity. The country has some big and popular English
Language Schools.
Malta - the republic in the Mediterranean Sea
In the 9th century Malta was inhabited by the Arabs. Later, in the 16th
century the island became the property of the Order of Malta. The island
was besieged many times but the knights successfully drove back all
attacks (by that time the island had been well fortified)

In 1798 Malta went under the control of France. The Order, however, survived and
remained on the island. In 1814 Malta became the British colony and English became the
official language.
In 1987 Malta became independent Republic but retained English as the official language.
As soon as Malta became
Republic it got the Flag
of its own.

The island was
attacked by the Turiks
many times but all
attempts to seize Malta
failed because the
knights fortified it very
well.
They planned to stay
on the island forever
and were not going to
give it up.

The Palace of The
Knights
Is the most famous
place on the island. It
was built in the 16th
century and is a
colossal building. The
palace has about 500
rooms, 100 halls and
50 staircases. For
many years The
Palace was the
residence of the
Grand Master of the
Maltese Order. Today
it is visited by
thousands of tourists.

The Maltese preserve their traditions and
commemorate the memory of the
Maltese Knights in many ways.
Tourism is the main industry
Diving is a popular activity and
tourism is the pillar of the
national economy.

When you see buildings like this one you
understand why it was impossible to capture
Malta.
