National sports awards help this and people can learn essential skills such as working with and organizing others. Grants in the British Sports Trust Recently there has been a £2.38 million government grant to encourages further participation in volunteering amongst young people, the British Sports Trust is now keen to develop its groups with young people. This automatically encourage people to join an participate in sport and gives them something to look forward to and distract them from crime and drugs. This is all part of Sport Initiative. AWARDS WITHIN THE BRITISH SPORTS TRUST The Junior Sports Award: for 14-16 year olds and is taught mainly in school within the National Curriculum at Key Stage 4. The Community Sports Leaders Award: for those 16 and over this is popular in schools, collages, youth clubs and prisons across the nation. The Higher Sports Leader Award: builds the skills gained through the Community Sports Leader Award. To prepare young people to lead specific groups. Such as people with disabilities and primary Core values of Sports Leaders UK Developing Leadership – teaching people the ability to organize activities, to lead, motivate and communicate with groups. Developing Skills for Life – helping people reach their true potential. Providing a stepping stone to employment – offering qualifications to get started. Encouraging volunteering in communities – motivating others to organize safe sport in their communities. CORE VALUES (CONTINUED) Reducing youth crime – young people engaging in positive activities. Supporting more active, healthier communities – by providing sports leaders to organize a range of physical activity sessions. YOUTH SPORTS TRUST This is a a key player in grass root sport. It’s aims is to educate and develop young people through physical education and sport in order that they can enjoy PE through a quality introduction. They enjoy this through the best teaching possible and healthy competition, to develop a healthy lifestyle. The YST is also involved in developing Specialist Sports Colleges.
