Financial Support and your Course
• The type of financial support you receive
depends on the course you wish to study
• Some courses are “fully NHS funded”, others are
“partially NHS funded” and partially funded by
Student Finance England (or equivalent)
• This presentation is split into these two parts

You apply for funding from Student Finance England
Tuition Fees
• Tuition Fee Loan
- You do not need to pay your fees upfront
- Government loans are available for all students
to cover the fees in full
- These are not dependent on household income

Sheffield Bursary Scheme
• Postcode and grades - £500
Students who live in a low participation area in
Sheffield and the surrounding region and achieve
A,B,B or higher (or equivalent) at A-Level
regardless of household income
• All care leavers and student carers
automatically receive a £4,500 bursary

You apply for funding from the National Health Service
Business Services Authority (NHSBSA)
NHS Funded Years
• Your tuition fees are paid for you by the NHS
• You receive a bursary and a grant from the NHS
towards your living costs
• You can still apply for a maintenance loan from
Student Finance England

• You will receive the following support for living
costs :
• Non means tested grant - £1000
• Means tested bursary – up to £4395

• Many of our students work part time to help with living
costs with the added benefit of developing key
employability skills.
• Our Student Jobshop advertises all the latest vacancies
and staff can offer professional advice.
• As well as part-time work, the Jobshop also has details
of vacation work, internships and year-long placements.

Student Loan Repayments
• Repayments start:
- The April after you graduate
- When you are earning over £21,000
• Interest charged
• Anything unpaid after 30years is written off
Student Loan Repayments – an
example
• You pay back 9% of anything over £21,000 that you
earn
• Therefore if you earn £22,000; you repay 9% of
£1000 - £90 per year or £7.50 per month
