California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Preparing Your LEA’s Student Paper-Pencil Test Registration File 1 – 2 p.m. November 12, 2014 Purpose • By the end of this Webcast, local educational agency (LEA) CAASPP coordinators will know how to prepare their student paper-pencil test registration file, which is the first step in ensuring appropriate students receive the following paperpencil tests: – Science CST, CMA or CAPA Grades 5, 8, and 10 only – STS for RLA – Special versions Large print, braille, Spanish Smarter Balanced mathematics Preparing the Student Test Registration File 2 Agenda • • • • • • Overview File Specifications Preparing Your File Live Demonstration Questions Updates and Announcements Preparing the Student Test Registration File 3 Overview Overview • • As student data becomes available in the Test Operations Management System (TOMS), LEA CAASPP coordinators will need to ensure correct tests are assigned to each student. The default student test assignments in TOMS are as follows: – Grades 3–8 and 11: Online Smarter Balanced summative assessments in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics – Grades 5, 8 and 10: California Standards Test (CSTs) for Science (paper-pencil) Preparing the Student Test Registration File 5 Overview • Last year, orders for paper-pencil tests were placed in the STAR Management System through the Order Management Module. • This year, there is a new process in TOMS. • There are two ways to assign paper-pencil tests to students: 1. Complete the student test registration file and upload it to TOMS 2. Configure test assignments one by one within the TOMS interface Preparing the Student Test Registration File 6 CAASPP Paper-Pencil Tests • 2015 CAASPP paper-pencil assessments include: – Science for grades 5, 8 and 10: CST California Modified Assessment (CMA) California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) – Standards-based tests in Spanish (STS) in reading/language arts (RLA) Grades 2–11 Preparing the Student Test Registration File 7 CAASPP Paper-Pencil Tests (cont.) • 2015 CAASPP paper-pencil special versions include: – Braille: Science CSTs and CMA STS in RLA Smarter Balanced in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics – Large print: Science CSTs and CMA STS in RLA Smarter Balanced in ELA and mathematics – Spanish version of Smarter Balanced summative mathematics Grades 3–8 and 11 Preparing the Student Test Registration File 8 File Specifications Student Paper-pencil Test Registration Template • Download from TOMS Web page: – http://caaspp.org/administration/toms/ • Accepted file formats: – .xls, .xlsx, .csv, and .tsv Preparing the Student Test Registration File 10 File Specifications • Column A: Student’s Statewide Student Identifier (SSID) – – – Must be 10 numeric characters Required field Acceptable values: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0 • Column B: Test Admin − Use this field to assign different test admins (previously set up in TOMS) to students Note: If all students within in a school belong to the same test admin, this field should be left blank − − Not a required field Acceptable values: ADMIN01, ADMIN02, ADMIN03, ADMIN04, ADMIN05, ADMIN06 Preparing the Student Test Registration File 11 File Specifications • Column C: CST for Science – Students in grades 5, 8 and 10 are automatically enrolled in Science CSTs – To disenroll a student from CSTs, indicate “N” or leave the field blank – Not a required field – Acceptable values: Y, N, or blank – Note: Students in grades 5, 8 and 10 must be enrolled in one of the following science tests: CST, CMA, or CAPA Preparing the Student Test Registration File 12 File Specifications • Column D: CMA for Science – Indicates students in grades 5, 8 and 10 who need to take the Science CMA – To enroll a student for the CMA, indicate “Y” in the field – To disenroll a student from the CMA, indicate “N” or leave the field blank – Not a required field – Acceptable values: Y, N, or blank Preparing the Student Test Registration File 13 File Specifications • Column E: CAPA for Science – Indicates students in grades 5, 8 and 10 who need to take the Science CAPA – To enroll a student for the CAPA, indicate “Y” in the field – To disenroll a student from the CAPA, indicate “N” or leave the field blank – If a student is enrolled in Science CAPA, he/she will automatically be disenrolled from the CST, CMA, STS and Smarter Balanced assessments – Not a required field – Acceptable values: Y, N, or blank Preparing the Student Test Registration File 14 File Specifications • Column F: STS for RLA – Indicates students in grades 2–11 who will take the STS for RLA Optional; does not replace the Smarter Balanced ELA assessments – To enroll a student for the STS, indicate “Y” in the field, otherwise indicate “N” or leave the field blank – Not a required field – Acceptable values: Y, N, or blank Preparing the Student Test Registration File 15 File Specifications • Column G: Braille – – – – – There are paper-pencil braille versions of the Science CST and CMA, STS for RLA, and Smarter Balanced ELA and mathematics To enroll a student for paper-pencil braille, indicate “Y” in the field, otherwise indicate “N” or leave the field blank Not a required field Acceptable values: Y, N, or blank Note: To receive paper-pencil braille Smarter Balanced tests, the LEA must have been approved for Smarter Balanced paper-pencil assessments by the CDE and configured in TOMS by the California Technical Assistance Center (CalTAC) Preparing the Student Test Registration File 16 File Specifications • Column H: Large print – – – – – There are large print versions of the Science CST and CMA, STS for RLA, and Smarter Balanced ELA and math To enroll a student for large print, indicate “Y” in the field, otherwise indicate “N” or leave the field blank Not a required field Acceptable values: Y, N, or blank Note: To receive large print Smarter Balanced tests, the LEA must have been approved for Smarter Balanced paper-pencil assessments by the CDE and configured in TOMS by CalTAC Preparing the Student Test Registration File 17 File Specifications • Column I: Spanish Smarter Balanced summative math – There are paper-pencil Spanish versions of the Smarter Balanced summative math test for grades 3–8 and 11 To enroll a student for the Spanish version, indicate “Y” in the field, otherwise indicate “N” or leave the field blank Not a required field Acceptable values: Y, N, or blank Note: To receive Spanish Smarter Balanced math tests, the LEA must have been approved for Smarter Balanced paper-pencil assessments by the CDE and configured in TOMS by CalTAC – – – – Preparing the Student Test Registration File 18 Preparing Your File Preparing Your File • Do not move or change the order of the columns − • Accepted file formats: – • .xls, .xlsx, .csv, and .tsv Only one special form—braille, large print, or Spanish Smarter Balanced mathematics—can be selected for a student on the file – • • • Column widths can be expanded for easier viewing If a student needs both braille and large print, contact CalTAC Maintain the column headers in row 1 Do not use formulas Save your file frequently!
