BP’s Ultimate Field Trip 2014 What is the UFT? The Ultimate Field Trip, or UFT, is a team-based competition for students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. Students from all over the country form teams of three and put their talents together to tackle a real-world energy challenge over four months. The UFT currently runs in the UK, the US, Trinidad & Tobago, Angola and Canada. Each country’s winning team gets a place on a two-week international field trip. From the start of the competition to the last day of the trip, the UFT is an unforgettable and life-changing experience. 2014 Challenge The problem: Energy companies consume large amounts of energy in running their operations. The challenge: More efficient use of energy. Identify an innovative solution that will significantly reduce energy consumption and be implemented by 2025, with the potential to scale across the energy industry. This could apply anywhere from point of capture to point of sale of energy products, and potentially even create a new product stream. What can I win? BP’s Ultimate Field Trip has seen winners visit our largest deepwater oil field in the Gulf of Mexico, get up close to Shetland ponies, dive into Norwegian fjords and experience the huge scale of a global oil and gas business in Trinidad and Tobago. But what can 2014’s winners expect as they experience our operations in Alaska and the Chicagoland area? What can I win? BP Ultimate Field Trip Week 1 On the 21st June, winning teams the US, the UK, Trinidad & Tobago, Angola and Canada will join BP’s Alaskan interns in Anchorage. As well as an induction and the chance to meet industry experts, they’ll get to tour our facility and learn about exploration and upstream in Alaska. The next day the field trip officially begins, with three days experiencing BP’s Energy Plan Workshop alongside our Alaskan interns. What can I win? BP Ultimate Field Trip Week 2 From Alaska, winners will fly out to join our teams in Chicago and experience the BP trading floor in action. Time in Illinois will also include a visit to our Research Centre in Naperville, plus the chance to meet with our Refining Technology teams and discover what life on the leading edge of the industry is like. Finally, the five winning teams will get a tour of our state-of-the-art Whiting Refinery, which processes some 413,000 barrels of oil every single day. The UFT will finish on the 4th of July, meaning winners will spend their last day experiencing one of America’s biggest holidays first-hand – and the fireworks, food and hospitality that goes with it.
