Senior Charge Nurse Framework –
Leading Better Care

Leading Better Care establishes a national role framework for senior
charge nurses (SCNs) working in hospital settings across NHS Scotland.
The revised SCN role clearly defines a number of key roles, which include
ensuring that SCNs are visible and accessible to patients and their carers.
It also empowers SCNs to be clinical leaders and guardians of safety and
quality in their area.
The SCN role consists of 4 key areas:
1. Enhancing patients experience
2. Managing and developing the performance of the team
3. Contributing to the delivery of the organisations objectives
4. Ensuring safe and effective clinical practice

AHP Careers Fellowship Scheme

The AHP Career Fellowship Scheme exists to support learning and
development opportunities for the benefit of the AHP workforce across
NHSScotland.

The Scheme’s career framework levels priority areas for funding in
2010 to 2013 are AHP Healthcare Support Workers and Assistant
