Introduction
Brief Description of the Bureau of
Consular Affairs
Passports: CA is responsible for issuing
passports to U.S. citizens. There are twenty
three Passport Agencies and four Passport
Centers throughout the U.S.
Citizen Support: Advises and supports US
citizens and our embassies and consulates
around the world in such matters as: Deaths,
Arrests, Robberies, Citizenship and nationality,
Federal benefits, Notarization of documents,
International parental child abduction.

Visas: Responsible for issuing all nonimmigrant and immigrant visas in
accordance with the INA.
Fraud Prevention Programs:
Provides resources, tools, and information
to help Consular Officers detect and deter
passport and visa fraud.

Funding: Collects fees for services
provided such as passports and visas.
Strategic Look at Contracts: Created
the Office of the Comptroller to provide a
central point of contact for vendors and
share vendor offerings across
organizational units. Established email for
