Components of ERAS
MyERAS Website
• Where students complete application, personal statement, select
programs to apply to, and assign documents to be received by their
chosen residency programs
Dean’s Office Work Station (DWS)
• ERAS software used by Dean's Office
• Creates electronic token that you use to access MyERAS
• System used to scan applicant’s photograph, medical school
transcript, MSPE, and Letters of Recommendation
Program Directors’ Work Station (PDWS)
• ERAS software used by program directors to receive, sort, review,
evaluate, and rank applications
ERAS Post Office
• Central system that transmits applicants’ information from Dean’s
Office to residency programs

How Does ERAS Work?
• Dean's Office issues you an electronic token to access
MyERAS
• You complete the ERAS application, select programs, assign
supporting documents, and transmit your application to
programs
• Dean’s Office starts scanning and transmitting supporting
documents and/or LOR Authors scan and transmit LOR
• Schools receive notification of the completed application
• Examining Boards receive and process requests for score
reports
• Programs contact the ERAS Post Office on a daily basis to
download application materials

ERAS Requirements
• Your Photograph
o You may choose to supply an updated photograph OR use your white
coat photograph.
o An updated photograph must:
 measure between 2.5 by 3.5 inches and no more than 3 by 4 inches
 be in color, not black and white
 show a full front view of head and shoulders with full-face centered
in the middle of the photograph
 have a plain white or light-colored background (dark-colored
backgrounds do not display very well in the program’s software).
 All of the above requirements also apply to digital
photographs. Save digital photographs in a jpg format.

ERAS Requirements
• Letters of Recommendation (LOR)
o Provide a LOR Request Form—requires a LetterID—to each author.
o LOR must be submitted on letterhead and signed by the author.
o LOR authors may upload their letters into ERAS via the LOR Portal or
send their LOR directly to the Dean’s Office for uploading into ERAS.
 The LOR Request Form will guide the author in using the LOR Portal.
 Detailed instructions for the LOR Portal will be available at
https://www.aamc.org/services/eras/282520/lor_portal.html.
 If an author uploads a new version of the letter, it will be prepended to
the original LOR—recent version first. So, please be aware that
programs (and medical schools) will be able to view BOTH versions of
the LOR.

ERAS Application Timeline
• Late June
o Dean’s Office sets up and distributes tokens—activating your ERAS Account
• July 1
o MyERAS User Guide available and MyERAS website opens
o Using your token, you may register on the MyERAS website and begin working on your
application
o You can also begin generating Letter Request Forms—requires a LetterID—to request
LOR from faculty
o You will be able to select programs, but you CANNOT apply to residency programs
o Dean’s Office begins uploading supporting documents
• August/September
o You will have an opportunity to review your MSPE for accuracy
• September 15 (ERAS Post Office Opens!)
o You can begin applying/transmitting your applications to allopathic residency programs
o ACGME accredited residency programs can begin contacting the ERAS Post Office to
download applications
• October 1
o MSPEs are released to ACGME accredited programs

ERAS and NRMP Fees
Applicants must register with both the
NRMP and ERAS to participate in the
services of each.
• ERAS processing fees are based on the number of programs
applied to per specialty.
o MyERAS automatically calculates your fees.
o Military programs, regardless of specialty, are treated as a
single specialty.
• The NRMP registration fee is $50.00.

National Residency Match Program
The NRMP’s Main Residency Match provides an impartial
venue for matching applicants' preferences for residency
positions with program directors' preferences for applicants.

NRMP Registration Fee
• The $50.00 fee must be made at the time of registration
for the Main Residency Match.
• Applicants who complete their registrations after
November 30 must pay an additional $50.00 late
registration fee—total $100.00.
• All registration fees are non-refundable.

Match Participation Agreement
Terms and Conditions
• Each applicant and program desiring to participate in the
Main Residency Match is required to enter into a Match
Participation Agreement by indicating acceptance of
NRMP’s terms and conditions upon registration.
